Why so much wasted space between tabs and the top edge of the browser window?

After revisiting the Top Feedback Summary for November 4th, and in agreement with daleshire that Edge Chromium should keep the square tabs from Edge Classic (and the In Private Button should match the square design too,) I am still questioning why there is so much wasted space between the top of the browser window and tabs in Edge Chromium.

By the way, nobody has mentioned that Safari's tabs are totally square with no gap above, but please don't try to replicate this design when tabs fill the available width of the window!
