Windows 10 Timeline relies on web history sync to work, that option is currently unavailable in the Edge insider, so once they enable it then Windows 10 Timeline will start showing your web history just like in the current built-in Edge browser.
Be careful Not to use 3rd party extensions to sync history, they can steal your web history and other data and upload to their own servers.

HotCakeXI really hope that there's the ability to "opt out" of Timeline for certain sites. For example, Twitter and Facebook... it can record that I was there, but there's no way for it to record WHERE I was so there's no "going back" to what I was looking at. This means that visits to Twitter and Facebook, just as examples, do nothing more than 'clutter up' Timeline. I'd love to be able to exclude certain domains, sites, URLs, or whatever from Timeline. Or be able to opt out of the browser participating in Timeline all together.

Why do you think it's not possible to tell where you were on Facebook? every page/profile/group/image etc has their own unique URL, once they sync up, you can exactly go to where you were.

Hi Jan & welcome,
It is not something that needs to be "planned". It will be a natural occurrence. The same as Edge works, by default, with Timeline, the new Edge will, as well. When it is the OS's integral browser, they will continue to work together, as now; and, without adding an extension, anymore, of course.
For now, with Edge C, you can make it work with an extension called, Timeline. Click the logo to access Timeline https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/timeline-support/meokcjmjkobffcgldbjjklmaaediikdj
Cheers,
