DavidH0 Open source kills competition. If it was not for open source software we would still have various companies maintaining their browser engines. The lure of shared advantages is how just company, Google, has all the power to make any meaningful changes to the internet in general.
Put it another way, chromium in open source but how many of the forks ended up being as good as the new edge is today? None. Good software requires investment and return on investment comes when only you have the advantage. That's how capitalism works.
Hopefully, once the PWAs are sorted out, we'll again have some companies investing in their proprietary engines with their own special architecture.

why need opensource, if we already have 4 different edge browser (for FREE, we need to remember!) and there are at least 40+ chromium based browser in the world. if there is no enough choice, i think you need to first start to search "browser mac" in google. even me with over 100 profiles i don't have any problem to manage it over different browsers.
