Top Feedback Summary for December 8
Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.
Welcome back to the Top Feedback Summary, Insiders! We’re adding on a couple of new things this week. We also wanted to take this time to remind everyone that we will be taking a holiday break this month. The last two weeks of December will not have any updates to this list (or our Dev channel). We’ll remind you all next week!
Last week, we closed out the item about being able to use voice search on google.com, and we wanted to provide more clear instructions and clarify the availability for this feature. This is currently available to users in our Canary and Dev channels for Windows only. If you would like to use this feature and aren’t able to, we encourage you to try running Edge using this command line in Command prompt: msedge.exe --enable-features=msSpeechRecognition. We are slowly rolling this out to all users across all platforms (same with history sync) and wanted to ensure that was clearly laid out for everyone.
We are excited to bring two new things to you all this week! One is an update to PDFs, Users can get back to where they left off in PDF documents. This item is Planned, however we don’t have a time frame on when users will see this addition to the PDF reader just yet. The next item on the list is something we have seen frequently requested across social media, Allow users to turn off the “Disable developer mode extensions” notification. The team currently has this Under Review, and we will provide more information about this item once the review is completed.
That’s all for this week. We’ll see you all next week for our final 2020 update on your top feedback!
Here’s this week’s updated list:

- David_HuskissonCopper ContributorSo, it's 16th May now. How are you getting on with this "Under Review" item? The "Disable developer mode extension" pop-up is most annoying. I have already "blocked" all pop-ups in Settings, but it doesn't stop this one.
- Richard_BottiglieriIron ContributorAny update when the universal builds for macOS (to support Apple silicon machines) will be available?

Anything about this?
- DeletedHello Missy, this is Shawn from Twitter. For the planned for December for the quick links. When is it coming?
Thank you - paeffgen-itCopper Contributor
MissyQ Really good things that come for the Edge. But I still lack a certain function, namely a separate clear cache implementation. Either in the settings on the left in the bar, or directly in the profile. Would be cool if there was something like that in the next update. Because if I program something on my local server and I change an image (hero), you can see it in Chrome and not in Edge. Chrome clears the cache and updates the page completely when you press F5. Edge doesn't do that.

Can you explain more, not sure what image hero is. your comment is in German and got auto translated.
and a better explanation of the problem you are experiencing, the one about having to refresh.
Edge has cache management:

edge://settings/clearBrowserData

I would really like to see the favorite popup menu return. Since the last two or three updates it has been replaced with a tree menu, which is slow to appear.
It also has this web-stuff "feature" of showing grey boxes instead of text for a second.
Albeit it only taking maybe a second to show the actual content this really makes it feel slow.

MissyQ Any info if the speech recognition team is working on fixing the bugs I've reported before releasing it into the open?
Re: Web Speech API support ? - Page 2 - Microsoft Tech Community
I think these are rather critical errors and they are easy to reproduce 😞

https://www.zdnet.com/article/8-of-all-google-play-apps-vulnerable-to-old-security-bug/ (MS Edge is included in this list)
Did you fix this?
- DavidGBIron ContributorAs last week, you really, really need to re-open the issue of putting open/save/save-as on the native download shelf, wrecking every one of the custom download manager ui extensions in the Edge and Google Chrome extension stores. It's going to cost you a lot of potential migrants from Firefox and Google Chrome. GET THE OPEN/SAVE/SAVE-AS CHOICE OF THE DOWNLOAD SHELF. Having it there makes all the extensions offering better, more advanced download UIs unusable, removing the large choice users had - and still have in Google Chrome and Firefox.
and yet you haven't answered that why those extension developers shouldn't change their extension to be compatible with the new system.
should Microsoft ask THEIR permission for making a change that PEOPLE asked for?
there is always 2 sides of a story.
some guy thought Edge is like Chrome and made an extension, now boom, it doesn't work with Edge because that's Not chrome, Edge is another browser.
Opera, Vivaldi, Brave, they all have deeply changed their browsers and lots of extensions don't work on them.
just because a browser is using Chromium under-the-hood does Not mean that all extensions should be compatible with every browser.
this is a fair point to be honest that I'm describing.
like if I was a browser developer and wanted to use Chromium, I shouldn't be afraid that oh if I do this, if i change that, then some extensions made for another browser (Chrome) won't work with my browser. if my browser was so similar to Chrome, then there is no point in making my browser, everybody could just use Chrome and stay happy.
