Surface Pro Pen

I just got my Surface Pro 7 two days ago.  I got the keyboard and the pen. I was absolutely in love. However, last night when I was using it, it completely froze. After waiting 10 minutes, I restarted it. When it came back on, for some reason many features dealing with the pen changed. For example, the highlighter feature was not working the same. I am not sure if it updated, but I absolutely hate it. It is definitely changing my experience. 

I used to be able to click the highlighter tool and simply drag across the text that I wanted to highlight. Now I can only double click each word. I have researched it and it says that I need to click and then drag the blue dots that pop up; however, this simply highlights the line below.

I also used to be able to write with my pen and use my finger to drag to scroll on the document, but this is not working anymore either. When I click to drag with my finger, it simply creates another pen stroke.

These were simple features that I quickly fell in love with and am very frustrated that out of nowhere they stopped working. Please let me know if this is something that I can fix. If not, I will need to return the device and get a different one. This has been very frustrating.
