Sign in with a Google account - Discussion
Thanks for your feedback requesting the ability to sign in with a consumer Google account. From what we’re hearing, you’d like the ability to bring over data from Chrome, use your Google services and keep Microsoft Edge and Chrome in sync.
While we recognize this need, we’re currently focused on creating great 1st party account experiences with your Microsoft account and Work or School account. We appreciate the feedback around supporting signing in with other providers such as Google and will be taking this under consideration. One option available to you now would be to create a new Microsoft Account using your @gmail address, which would allow you to use a single user identifier across the various services you use.
Today, you can import your data from Chrome by going to edge://settings/importData for a one time import. You can also sign into Google websites and remember your password in Microsoft Edge to reduce the number of times you need to sign into these websites. And you can access your Microsoft Edge data on the go by signing into Microsoft Edge with a Microsoft account and syncing with Microsoft Edge Mobile apps and Microsoft Edge on other devices.
We will keep you updated as we further explore support for other sign-in providers in Microsoft Edge as well, it is on our roadmap.
Hey, everyone! Thanks so much for this discussion, we've learned a lot from your comments. We'd like to first make it clear that we do not plan to integrate Google services into Microsoft Edge by default. We are considering including an opt-in experience for users to attach their Google account to Microsoft Edge but are not ready to make a decision on it just yet.
I'd like to take this time to reiterate what Elliot posted back in November: One option available to you today to use a single user identifier across the various services you use is to create a new Microsoft Account using a @gmail address.
As you know, you can currently import your data from Chrome by going to edge://settings/importData. You can also sign into Google websites and remember your password in Microsoft Edge to reduce the number of times you need to sign in. Accessing your Microsoft Edge data on-the-go is easily done by signing into Microsoft Edge with a Microsoft account and syncing with Microsoft Edge across other devices and mobile.
As always, we will update here once we have more information. Please continue to provide your feedback and suggestions around this feature; the team will continue to review feedback even if we have moved something to Not Planned.

Elliot Kirk ne surtout pas faire ça ! un compte microsoft suffira largement et le nouveau edge ne doit surtout pas commencer à être infesté de service google innutile alors que ceux de microsoft/bing sont largement suffisant !

Don't do that! a microsoft account will be more than enough and the new edge should not start to be infested with unmuting google service while those of microsoft/bing are more than enough!

I agree with Microsofts workaround on this.
If you need to feel connected with the same account name, you can do as Microsoft suggest.
I don't believe that Google services can be implemented in a way where it does not collect data most who avoids Google, would accept.
It would also be a confusing move from a PR perspective, because of earlier blog posts about the removal or shutting down Google related services and features.
To me it is an unnecessary gamble which, at worst, could result in losing more users than they can gain from stealing them from Chrome.

Elliot Kirk While your statement on this issue is understandable, it isn't very helpful for the many users who go back and forth between the two (Microsoft and Google) environments. For example, I have a Chromebook, which I love for travel purposes, but, at home, I use a Windows 10 desktop. I prefer the way Windows Edge functions on the desktop, but changes I make in terms of bookmarks, etc., won't be available to me on the laptop. One of the first things I thought of when I tried Edge Beta for the first time was, "Wow! Can't wait 'til I can sync with my Chrome account!" That doesn't sound very likely, based on what you are saying. Guess it's back to Chrome!

QuietType Maybe if you could make a change to favorites on the browser, and then the changes saved to both accounts, that might fix your problem, but that sounds like it would bring a whole new set of problems. At first when I heard about this, I was like, 'No. That's stupid', but now I realize that for many people, they need to be able to sync their google accounts(like you).
The best solution seems to add the ability to sync google accounts but block all contact with google(for privacy) until the user starts to sync their google account.
- You know that google made chromebook exactly to create these problems and force them to use google ecosystem.
so that people would go to other companies and ask them to implement google services.
- I'm curious to know how the news of the Edge beta which was based on Chromium source gave off an impression that it would be using Google services, because there are a dozen Chromium based browsers and they all use their own dedicated sign in processes, Opera, Brave, Yandex etc.
now those companies are smaller than Microsoft and they are still using their own company's sign in features, for Microsoft that has even More accounts that Google, it is absolutely normal not to rely on a 3rd party like Google, specially with the true nature of Google that is based on using people's information (selling/gathering/mining)
also Linux community are not very comfortable with Google fillet

Elliot Kirk alot of people have given the feedback to not re-integrate with Google...
I rarely ever use my MS account. In fact, I think I only have it to comment on things like this.
I agree that the DATA should not be stored with Google, because you've done alot of work to keep that data. But I would like to be able to sign in with a Google account... or a OneLogin... or a Facebook... or an Apple ID...? Better yet, why not implement it to support OAuth where users can choose any service that supports the OAuth protocol... That would also make it easy to integrate with enterprise SSO solutions.

prbsparx It's about security, not just security about data leaks, also access.
Some software does not allow user create an account, only third-party sign in was provided, you used that software for years, but what if that third-party account was locked/banned/hacked?
You will not able to access your data anymore just because a third-party account issue, a third-party company have rights to decide keep or destroy your account at any time with any excuse...
This happened a lot of times in real life, a company disabled account without tell user what's wrong, only auto reply robot will answer your support ticket, the people behind customer service hot line says "you have violate their TOS or laws and regulations but can't tell you more about that because of company security and customer equitable"
Login with a third-party account and bind a phone or email? no no no, if you prefer, why not register a new account with those info?

Happened to me as well.
google's policies are very different that those of Microsoft.
- If that was a good thing, Google would make it happen to their Chrome browser a long time ago.
Microsoft has their own and better SSO solutions:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/compare-all-microsoft-365-plans- Eric79xIron ContributorSSO integration with my work Office365/Azure AD account is the main thing I want from the new Edge, but have been unable to get a solid answer on that yet.

Single way import is OK, but sync with Google? Why not make Chrome sync with Microsoft account??? That's what Microsoft did before, bring Microsoft into every where, not bring Google into every where...

Elliot KirkI think we made it pretty clear that the majority of us insiders do not want any integration with Google services. Now I can't know what not insiders think.
Letting people sign-in with 3rd party account to synchronize stuff may be ok, but just if this does not affect the browser experience of other users.
It may be something that could be added in the future, if many other people demand for this feature.

Elliot Kirk Adding the ability to sign in with Google account, would having all the efforts of creating a great browsing experience be eliminated. And all the hard work of making a the new microsoft Edge a pure Microsoft browsing experience. If a user wants to use a browser with their G account Chrome is available, but brining this idea of let's integrate Google services into the new Edge will have potential problems. Google is first an advertising company and does not care about how a user's data is used. What is the point of using the new Edge if at the end Microsoft makes a 180 degree turn and reintegrates Google services.
There are better features and better use of the engineering team's time than integrating Google back into the browser. Features like redesigning the UI including the settings menu, the favourites menu and features that are being asked for and will benefit the experience. The simple fact is if a user wants Google in their browser Chrome is available, even if Chrome integrates or allows sign in with MS account which is highly unlikely; this deters the use of Edge, including this idea will push people to Chrome and will not give a good incentive to use Edge.
Microsoft=Edge
Google=Chrome
Microsoft DOES NOT Equal to Google.

- Well said.
- darkw1zCopper ContributorHave to chip in here too. I also would prefer that you do not integrate with Google Services. There is always option to just simply login to Google services through webpages for GMAIL etc. I think something google related to be built-in the browser would rather have a negative impact on Edge.
- YgorCortesIron ContributorI do understand why some people are voting against this, but honestly if this feature is not going to be implemented after all, then you guys really need to improve the Edge browser on Android. The user Experience is not great at all, it lacks several animations (specially on tab switching,) it doesn't have a tab groups option even in the flags and the sync itself with the desktop Edge isn't working yet. Till this day Chrome is still the best Android browser and it would be really nice if Edge would catch up with it. The way it is now, being able to sync between Chrome on Android and Edge on desktop would be very useful imo.
- TheGreayManBrass ContributorI need Chrome Google login, I can't stand multiple accounts. I use my Microsoft account a great deal but Chrome and Google are essential to my universal device logging in anywhere lifestyle.
- It's already been decided that they are not doing it. check the best response above
