Hey, everyone! Thanks so much for this discussion, we've learned a lot from your comments. We'd like to first make it clear that we do not plan to integrate Google services into Microsoft Edge by default. We are considering including an opt-in experience for users to attach their Google account to Microsoft Edge but are not ready to make a decision on it just yet.
I'd like to take this time to reiterate what Elliot posted back in November: One option available to you today to use a single user identifier across the various services you use is to create a new Microsoft Account using a @gmail address.
As you know, you can currently import your data from Chrome by going to edge://settings/importData. You can also sign into Google websites and remember your password in Microsoft Edge to reduce the number of times you need to sign in. Accessing your Microsoft Edge data on-the-go is easily done by signing into Microsoft Edge with a Microsoft account and syncing with Microsoft Edge across other devices and mobile.
As always, we will update here once we have more information. Please continue to provide your feedback and suggestions around this feature; the team will continue to review feedback even if we have moved something to Not Planned.
just have a look at Microsoft corp profile on Google play.
Android with Chrome = 1 (they are the same thing, both are Google chrome browser)
Windows + Edge = 2 (Windows is the OS and Edge is the browser)
so obviously Microsoft has more advantage and it's Google who should be looking for a way to penetrate Microsoft ecosystem by allowing Chrome users to use Microsoft account sign in.
both personal and work Microsoft accounts to be used in Google chrome browser.
Man you're wrong on this. Despite many users need pc to work, 80% of people nowadays spends most of his time on smartphone. And android is the most popular os on mobile. Chrome is preinstalled in most cases and it's good. So most people, like me, use it. I'm an old Microsoft user though, so i didn't buy a Chromebook, but a surface pro when i needed a desktop / hybrid pc. But i installed Chrome to sync and keep synched. So no, is Microsoft that should try to penetrate Google ecosystem. In fact, Chrome is still, and will, the most used, because break synchronization is a no go for most people. Edge chromium so, is good, but is late now. People used google and keep using it. Oh and i tried to use edge on mobile. I didn't like it for various reasons
- HotCakeXJan 23, 2020MVPThere are facts here:
1. Samsung is the biggest smartphone maker, ever, Huawei is the 2nd and Apple is 3rd, and guess what, none of them put Chrome as their default browser (Huawei stopping doing it after Google stopped shipping them with their services)
Samsung has Samsung browser which is preinstalled by default.
2. Microsoft hasn't begun working on the Edge Android yet and by that I mean swapping its engine from EdgeHTML to Chromium. so we should give them time to do it and then after that it will be a great competitor to Chrome on mobile. it already is a great competitor but it will be top notch when it happens.
3. Google isn't a company to be trusted. their business is based on data mining while Microsoft business is based on selling/providing services, Not spying on users.
Google is the desperate one here, creating stuff like Chrome OS to find their ways into desktop market, but luckily, Huawei, the 2nd smartphone maker in the world, cut their access to their company so now Huawei is moving forward without the need of Google or supplying Google with user data to spy on.
Every company that stays on their own feet is the winner.
There are lots of Facebook accounts, Twitter accounts etc etc as well, so Edge should add sign in support for all of them too? just because many people use them? well Microsoft already has 3 Billion accounts and that's not a small number.- Manu99Jan 23, 2020Copper Contributor
HotCakeX Don't count safari here, because you are almost forced to use it on Apple device. Chrome is the https://gs.statcounter.com/browser-market-share/mobile/worldwide
- HotCakeXJan 23, 2020MVPSo you don't count the Android devices all together too because they are also forced to use Chrome just like Apple forces to use Safari. then you will see who is the winner and it is Not Chrome.
