Sign in with a Google account - Discussion
- Jan 28, 2020
Hey, everyone! Thanks so much for this discussion, we've learned a lot from your comments. We'd like to first make it clear that we do not plan to integrate Google services into Microsoft Edge by default. We are considering including an opt-in experience for users to attach their Google account to Microsoft Edge but are not ready to make a decision on it just yet.
I'd like to take this time to reiterate what Elliot posted back in November: One option available to you today to use a single user identifier across the various services you use is to create a new Microsoft Account using a @gmail address.
As you know, you can currently import your data from Chrome by going to edge://settings/importData. You can also sign into Google websites and remember your password in Microsoft Edge to reduce the number of times you need to sign in. Accessing your Microsoft Edge data on-the-go is easily done by signing into Microsoft Edge with a Microsoft account and syncing with Microsoft Edge across other devices and mobile.
As always, we will update here once we have more information. Please continue to provide your feedback and suggestions around this feature; the team will continue to review feedback even if we have moved something to Not Planned.

This is the reason why Google sign in is Not needed.
there are at the very least over 3 Billions Microsoft account! that's half of the Earth population.
(that report is from the beginning of 2019, by now, at the end of 2019, numbers are way higher)

There is definitely no shortage of Microsoft accounts. so if anything is going to happen, it should be on Google's side letting Chrome users be able to sign into Chrome browser using Microsoft account.

HotCakeX it comes down to a fanboy vs a general user perspective. i admin both gsuit and office. clearly HotCakeX doesn't have any experience with google products and services.
Yes i hate google for their data mining, but what do most end users use? i argue that most MS accounts are created only because people dont know how to avoid it when setting up a new pc. and most are prolly made with a gmail adress.
as for Word- they better get it improved to catch up to the features of google docs. i would be most happy if sign in with a google account was possible, but google services was OPTIONAL. Thankfully Microsoft finally seems to be learning that open source and flexibility are the way to go.
Bing Search, Cortana, bing maps can starve. What can replace google photos, google maps, and most importantly google Meet? IJW. it would be great to have a browser that would suit both worlds. I like my cake and icing 🙂 the numbers you threw around are pretty skewed. More than 60% of mid-sized U.S. companies use Gmail and 92 percent of startups.

Lots of assumptions there ^^
I have equal experience both from Google and Microsoft products.
Microsoft provides far more valuable services than Google does, on average, for people. the Hotmail, Windows Live messenger, Skype etc. they are popular services that have been around for years.
Gmail has no advantage over Outlook or Hotmail, but it is true the other way around.
Gmail is nothing special, there are Icloud emails, Yahoo emails etc that are equally popular.
Google meet? Meet Now (which is by default available in Windows 10 latest version) and in Skype.
also there is Microsoft Teams, which is a a beast on its own.
these aren't related to the topic anyway but I could go on.

Having Google allow users to sign in with their Microsoft accounts is the same as allow users to sign into MS with their Google accounts. Your giving Google your info.... Your giving Google your MS login info and anything else they can link to that from you and of you..... Your handing Google permission to have Your MS login ...... Do you Really want Google to have that???? And if you think your login is going to be safe with Google, you really need to think on it.. We're talking about the worlds largest data miner sell your soul for a buck Google......... NO Thanks! I'd rather stay as far as I can from allowing them any access......

Dennis5mile- ChipBoundaryJan 25, 2020Copper ContributorFirst and foremost, Microsoft taught Google EVERYTHING they know. The things Google use now, Microsoft invented. Every single update you do to Windows mines more information about your activities than Google does in an entire year. They have embedded ads and third party software directly into the OS. They are now adding more ads to their basic OS apps.
If you use office 365 they FORCE you to use Bing instead of Google as your search engine. And in order to change that, you have to go deep into settings to change it.
The difference between Google and Microsoft? Microsoft has had about 2 decades longer to perfect hiding their activities and an insanely larger market share. Nobody cares what Linux users are doing. They account for less than 2% of the market share and by your claim use a browser with major security and compatibility issues. So I care even less about what they have to say.
I'm not defending Google (or Microsoft), but if you're that concerned about privacy, yet you continue to use Microsoft products you are either in denial or of sub-par intelligence.
