Separate Search Bar in Edge
Hello all
I am still waiting for a separate search bar in the header of Edge, like in Firefox.
So I need two separate bars, an address-bar and an search-bar besides.
I know that I can also put in search termin the address-bar, but I need the two bars separate.
A long time ago, I read something about an alpha/beta/testing version, but havent seen anything yet.
Any clues?

Edge does not currently offer a built-in option to separate the search bar and the address bar. However, there are potential workarounds or alternative solutions that you can explore:
Solutions
1. Utilizing Browser Extensions
- Search for extensions like "Search Box" in the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store or Chrome Web Store (since Edge supports Chrome extensions).
- These extensions can add a floating search bar to Edge, mimicking the behavior of a standalone search bar.
2. Customizing the New Tab Page
- Set the new tab page to include a prominent search bar (e.g., Bing, Google, or your preferred engine).
- Go to:
Settings > New Tab Page > Customize the layout and toggle the search bar visibility. - Though this search bar isn’t in the header, it provides easy access whenever a new tab is opened.
3. Third-Party Tools
- Consider using third-party tools or software to overlay a separate search bar on your desktop that integrates with Edge.
- Applications like Launchy or similar productivity tools can serve as a universal search input.
4. Feedback to Microsoft
- Since Edge is frequently updated, feature requests are often taken into account.
- Submit feedback via:
Settings > Help and Feedback > Send Feedback.
Explain the benefits of a separate search bar, emphasizing user experience improvements.
5. Switching to Firefox Temporarily
- If this feature is essential to your workflow, you can consider using Firefox alongside Edge until such an option is added. Firefox provides both an address bar and a dedicated search bar by default.
Why a Separate Search Bar Could Be Useful
- Streamlined Workflow: For users who frequently use different search engines, having two bars allows quick switching and better focus.
- Reduced Confusion: Separating search from navigation minimizes accidental queries in the URL field.
- Customization: Offers flexibility for power users who like to compartmentalize their browser activities.
While waiting for Microsoft Edge to potentially introduce this feature, consider the above solutions. Whether through extensions or customized workflows, you can adapt Edge to meet your needs.
