Reading list
From the old Edge I´m missing most is the Reading list function. I have used that from the beginning and it has been a lifesaver in my work. Please add it to this new Edge as well

It would seem that they have GA scheduled for January 2020. And reading list is nowhere to be seen. Disappointing. I'm hoping the "new edge" is not forced to replace the old edge. This feature must be in edge.
But honestly, it doesn't surprise me that they didn't put this in. As I've said before, Microsoft fails to listen to it's users.

Hi,
The first stable channel release of the new Edge insider is is January 15, true. but that's not the date when it is going to replace the Edge classic automatically and forcefully.
Microsoft will use a later date to do that, most likely when Edge is more feature rich.

Phillip, it is there, in a manner of speaking, recently. Go to Import under Favorites & you can select & bring over your Reading List from Edge. Mine WAS in Other Favorites, but, I moved it into the Favs Bar... made it so I could be rid of Other Favorites.

Yeah but importing Reading List into Favorites doesn't really help me much. The Offline reading support is what I really need. Reading List did a very good job of that and unfortunately, collections doesn't support downloading the entire page for offline reading. It's pretty lacking.
- iljlichtenCopper ContributorIt seems to me that Collections are in improved version of the Reading List. It would then, however, be nice to be able to have our Reading List from the legacy Edge easily migrated into Collections. One could also simply create a collection called Reading List in order to separate it from your other Collections.
- wigsterIron ContributorOne of the things I was using the Reading List for was to triage articles on my phone’s Edge browser to be read later on my desktop. Collections are to complicated a feature to be put on the mobile browser probably, but a mobile reading list could appear as a particular collection on the Desktop.
- Yes. collections are different than reading list in a way that collections only save a link to a content on the web whereas reading list saves the actual content locally for off line reading later, even without internet connection, and it also syncs it between all of your devices.
Reading list is a must have! collections have different use cases.

Ari Suominen Though the New Edge is faster and maybe better than the original, the Reading List makes me stay at the old.
I hope thw Microsoft will implement it in the new Edge, also

Indeed, Aris, we all are hoping the same thing for this and a few other Edge must-haves, must-keeps since new Edge will replace current Edge they DO need to be included. We are being told they will be... and things are showing up, although, not all at once. But it is good there are comments & requests sharing SO much common ground & the same expressed by SO many people. We are asked for patience. The Team certainly know what Users want, it's repeatedly stated similarly by person after person. The stuff has to go in that will make people smile & be happy enough w/ (new) Edge to, actually, use it. And if people, already, use Edge because of it having certain things then obviously it's a no-brainer that those same things MUST continue to be Edge things!
Cheers,
Drew

Hi Ari,
I am quite sure this is a known issue. People have been indicating this is a "Must have", a "Keeper" for while. Now, it's 🤞 that it we see it, soon.
Cheers,
Drew- chrisdr2Copper ContributorI am new to the forum - reading list is important to me too. Though what they implemented in old Edge was poor compared to the original reading list app. If implemented, hope they add categories.
- xL3aMS1xIron ContributorTotally agree, it's a very great feature to add to the new Edge. Especially to have more features than other explorers.
Great feedback.

I know I'm late to the conversation but would also like to add my vote to add the reading list to the new (future) Edge. I don't use it as much as some seem to but I use it a lot especially when reading Wikipedia articals. I usually save the links that go to other atical and come back to read them later if I don't have time at the moment. Ari Suominen
- WiredTexanCopper Contributor+1 For reading list functionality. One of my favorite features in Safari as well.

Hi Ari Suominen, this is a facinating thread. There definitely seems like there is an unmet need for people to be able to catalog and manage certain portions of their browsing history or intentions. I will let the team know about this thread and the feedback that you and everyone on this thread have offered us. Thank you all for taking the time to try out our new version of Microsoft Edge and again for offering us this feedback.

I miss the Reading List as well. I replaced the functionallity by exportiong the Reading List in the old Edge to an HTML file. I then imported the file into the Preview version, renamed it "Reading List" and then moved it to the Favorites Bar. I now have almost the same thiong as before.

Whisper you said you exported your reading list to an html file. But I do not understand what you meant by that because I cannot get an actual list in text format only icons telling me what items comprise my own list.
so what exactly was the content of the HTML file that you then imported into the Preview version, renamed it "Reading List" and then moved it to the Favorites Bar????- WhisperCopper Contributor
Hi John,
Here is the process in more detail: Open old Edge and 1) click on the three periods in the top right corner, 2) click on settings, 3} Click on "Import or Export" (middle of page), 4) In third section from top, select "Reading List" and click "Export to File", 5) Select a location where you want the file, and then click "Save".
Now open Edge Preview and import the file you just saved following pretty much the same steps and locations above --except now you are importing. Finally, click on the three dots and select Favorites. All your Favorites and Reading List folder will show. Drag the Reading List into the Favorites Bar List area wherever you want it. I put mine right under the Favorites Bar title so the Reading List appears at the far left edge of the screen. The end result is not as "pretty" as in Edge, but they work.
- Phillip FrabottBrass ContributorOld Edge crashed when I tried to do that since i have over 2500 items in the reading list. We seriously need this feature added back in.

Ari Suominen I heavily suspect that Reading List will get the chop when it comes to importing features over to New Edge. Microsoft have just retired the 'Books' section on the Microsoft Store and will no longer be selling them. They may deem it not worth the time to build in the feature and stick to just the PDF reader. There is hope it might be included to pacify the education market which is something quite important at the moment.
- Phillip FrabottBrass Contributor
Cameron_Bush I think they discontinued the books section of the Store because they weren't getting many sales in it. Amazon keeps dominating that market.
- Cameron_BushIron Contributor
Phillip FrabottMost definitely. The Reading List was only added as a way to facilitate store bought books instead of having a stand alone app. Now they don't sell books there is little point for them to rebuild it into New Edge.
