Pinned tabs - "soft" and "hard"

I very much appreciate the ability to pin tabs. Unfortunately, if you close a pinned tab, it goes away. How about a toggle that adds an "are you sure?" if you try to close a pinned tab?  Does anyone know how to achieve this now?
