Ongoing sync between Microsoft Edge and Chrome - Discussion
Thanks for your feedback requesting the ability to have ongoing sync between Microsoft Edge and Chrome.
While we recognize this need, we’re currently focused on creating great 1st party sync experiences with your Microsoft account and Work or School account. If you are a Chrome user today, you already have option available to import all your data from Chrome to have Microsoft Edge personalized with all your browsing data.
If you are still looking for ongoing sync between Microsoft Edge and Chrome, please share some more details about your scenario.
- Why would you like an ongoing sync between the two? What problem would it solve for you?
- Do you expect to leverage this ongoing sync only for a short period of time (for instance during initial assessment of Microsoft Edge) or for long period (continue to use multiple browsers)?
- How would the absence of this ability change your perspective on Microsoft Edge adoption?
- Would the creation of a Chrome extension fulfil your requirement?
We will keep you updated as we better understand the needs of our community.
Thanks everyone for sharing your perspective on this topic. It is really helpful to see the sentiments and thoughts towards such a possibility. Please consider this thread closed for now. Stay assured, we are paying attention to everyone's requirements and concerns and are committed to doing the right thing for all of you.

Hi folks,
Typically we leave threads like these open as a way for users to continue to provide thoughts to us even when we decide not to implement a feature. However, this thread has a tendency to go off topic and leads to particularly heated discussions. Because of this, we've made the decision to lock this thread down. If you'd still like to answer the questions in the OP and provide our team with additional information about your scenario, please submit via Edge's "…" menu in the top right > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Thanks for understanding!

Hi,
maybe I ask why not?
Edge supports both regular and new macs running on M1 chip.

- Why would you like an ongoing sync between the two? What problem would it solve for you? Microsoft Edge on Android isn't as good as Chrome, since it doesn't support certain features (like WebAuthn). Edge also doesn't have a Linux version (yet)
- Do you expect to leverage this ongoing sync only for a short period of time (for instance during initial assessment of Microsoft Edge) or for long period (continue to use multiple browsers)? I want to use this for a long period.
- How would the absence of this ability change your perspective on Microsoft Edge adoption? I have the issue that Chrome is better on Android, but I can't sync Microsoft Edge with Chrome, so I will need to use chrome.
- Would the creation of a Chrome extension fulfil your requirement? No, because I need it on the phone, and you should also be able to send links to your other devices.

Why would you like an ongoing sync between the two?
I use chrome on my phone and edge on my computer. I bookmark sites on both platforms.
What problem would it solve for you?
Having to find bookmarks/sync bookmarks constantly whenever I add a new bookmark
Do you expect to leverage this ongoing sync only for a short period of time (for instance during initial assessment of Microsoft Edge) or for long period (continue to use multiple browsers)?
I will use this for as long as I google chrome is default browser on my phone.
How would the absence of this ability change your perspective on Microsoft Edge adoption?
It annoys me heavily. And tempts me back to chrome.
Would the creation of a Chrome extension fulfil your requirement?
If I can install it on my chrome on my desktop which in turn syncs with my phone and edge then, possibly. yes.
- BmehlingBBTSCopper ContributorMy issue in which I would like to see continuous sync between Chrome and Chromium Edge is that Edge performance on my phone is abysmal while Chrome works great, but on my computer, Edge is hands down the winner. So currently I would prefer to use Chrome on my phone, and Edge on my computer, but I need to have my bookmarks available on both devices, so I have to use the same browser on both devices unless an interbrowser data sync is developed.
If Edge on Android's performance were drastically improved, I would not need this and would just use Edge on both. As it stands, I may have to revert back to Chrome since I use web browsing on my phone almost constantly. So the best thing to do is to send feedback trough Edge browser and ask them to update the Chromium engine in Edge mobile from version 77 to the latest version. the more people ask for the same thing, they higher priority it will have.

I have been a Chrome user for many years, would like to incorporate Edge, use both depending on the objective and would like to migrate away from Google solutions entirely (due to serious privacy, censorship and adopting the woke culture standards and priorities.
Therefore, sync of bookmarks and id/pw's is a must to support/enable/promote using Edge instead of Chrome. I am Office 365 subscriber, Windows 10 user.

I don't know why I'm shocked at this rhetoric - one again, the false idea that a walled garden is better than let the people have it all.
Can we please stop with this nonsense!!!! Flame on!
Tell that to google and ask them why they don't allow Microsoft sign in support to their chrome browser. would love to hear their response.

This will be a great feature that new Edge users will love and will increase the adoption rate.
I have the following scenario:
I have used Chrome for a long time. I have created a large set bookmarks related to my profession and organized them to many diffrent folders. I create, add, and organize bookmarks mostly during my working.
For my new job, I am forced to use Edge on my company laptop. I continue to use Chrome personally though. Now, as I am working, I see for example an interesting webpage that I want to add to my set of bookmarks, and I want to read the page later at home. The other way, at home I read an interesting page related to my work, and I want to continue reading it tomrrow at work.
This scenario cannot be solved by one-time or multiple import/export of bookmarks between two browsers. It requires ongoing sync between bookmarks.
I would love to see this feature.
just switch to Edge then if you are not forced to use chrome.
if it's just your personal preference, then you can ask google to add Microsoft sync to their chrome browser to make it easier for you.
this will not, in any way, help Edge adoption, it just increases chrome's popularity.

akhator, my main use case for this is that I have a Chromebook which cannot run Edge (not available in Google Play Store for the Lenovo Chromebooks), and therefore I must use Chrome.
Not having the browser bookmarks sync between the two is a deal breaker for me, otherwise I would have switched.

that sounds like a Google problem to be honest. it's a fair complain, that they don't support Edge on that device.
but yeah if they added Microsoft login to their chrome browser, it'd be better.
there is no point in integrating google spyware into Edge.
Edge uses a de-googled version of Chromium, absolutely no point in adding those stuff back to the browser again.

Hey,
You know that edge is coming to linux soon? I know that some chromebook's support linux apps. So, I wonder if since of that you can run the linux version of edge??
