"noframemerging" in Edge is not supported
Elizabeth1969 Darshini_Patel Nrein2062 Ulrich_Bernskov esirvys Hello Everyone! (I tried to tag everyone in the thread, apologies if I missed anyone!)
I know this thread has been around for awhile. I wanted to follow up as the team is doing some investigation about nomerge with IE mode in Microsoft Edge. Specifically they are trying to understand better how customers are using nomerge.
Would you be able to answer the following questions?
- For your scenario, do you use the nomerge command-line option, the registry option, and/or the new session option?
- When you are in a scenario that requires nomerge, are you usually using multiple tabs in the same window? If so, are those tabs part of the same workflow?
Hoping you folks can help! Thank you!

Kelly_Y We are using the command line option. We open the new session in a new window, not the multiple tabs within the same window.
Our customers have started migrating to Edge as IE 11 is going out of support. And so, IE 11 as a workaround is not a viable option for the impacted workflows. Has the team at MS come up with a potential workaround? Any details on that if you can share would be appreciated. Furthermore, what's the current status of the progress on this case? We need to know the projected timeline of support for -noframemerging switch in Edge so that we can plan on re-designing the workflows on our end if necessary.

Hello Kelly,
I have just posted a reply in this issue.
Why nomerge is going to work with IE mode only?
As far as I know, IE mode is using IE 11 Trident MSHTML engine.
This means that we can´t use modern features of the language as arrow functions, template strings ... , so we are going to be sticked to old syntax.
I think that this feature is not only related to IE11 (for historical reasons), this must be a feature for a modern browser too.

Hi Kelly_Y and thank you.
So that our web application can remain separate when integrating with other partners.
1. We use the command-line option to call iexplore.exe -noframemerging.
2. To open a new separate window that is a separate process.
Thanks again, and thanks Darshini_Patel . - Elizabeth1969Mar 25, 2021Copper Contributor
Kelly_Y In IE 11, I have the target as "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -noframemerging from the properties window. I do not use multiple tabs, I use multiple windows as I have found that multiple tabs still merges. I have the same website open, using the same user ID information to log in and am able to switch between my windows/screens without them interfering with the other sessions of the same user on the same website. I tried using "-noframemerging" and "-nomerge" for MS Edge and it doesn't work.

Hi Kelly,
We have an LOB which also require multiple IE session open per user.
We currently use this desktop shortcut "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -noframemerging https://this
I have tried to implement IE mode which works well to redirect, but when a new tab is opened, data leaks between them which goes against our use case.
As others have mentioned, this used to work fine in IE11.

Thank you for your help.
Here are my answers:
1. We use command-line option too (-noframemerging or -nomerge)
2. We can have multiple tabs in the same window that are part of the same workflow

We use the command-line option (on a shortcut) Kelly_Y . We have POS terminals that log into Windows with a generic account and users then use a shortcut on the desktop to open the application and login with their credentials. As the terminal is shared, other users can open a new session and login with their credentials as well, so that there can be multiple browser session open with different users logged in. The app uses SAML auth with Azure AD. A PIN protects each user's session, so even though there are can be multiple users logged in, they can't access each other's sessions.
