Microsoft Edge for MacOS: Unable to sign in

Hello, 

When I click on Profile icon in MS Edge, click on Sign in to sync data and fill my account and click on Next, the login window asking for my username just refreshes. When I click Next once again, I get an error "This username may be incorrect. Make sure that you typed it correctly. Otherwise, contact your admin.". I am able to sign in with this account to MS Edge profile on Windows machine though and I am also able to do this on Mac with another account. I contacted MS technical support, spent about an hour and a half chatting with 3 different agents and the final advice was to post here. 

Can anyone help?
