if there is an extension that does this then problem solved, extensions are exactly made for these kinds of situations, where a small percentage of people are looking for an uncommon feature. extensions are features on demand; they make the browser modular.

No extension on Chromium browsers allow double-click to close tab on tab bar. There is one with double click inside page and that is really bad as I close accidently page often. Mouse gestures are a possible workaround, but built-in. Extensions often hoard personal data and not work on all pages well.
