Discussion - Set Aside Tabs and Warn on Close

Yeah, and it's because Edge is not open source so only Microsoft knows how to make something work best for Edge
AFAIK people can always contribute code upstream to Chromium, and then MS can incorporate the same into Edge is they wish to.

Anyone can see all of the code, so there can be no hidden tracking/data mininghttps://news.softpedia.com/news/google-s-chromium-on-debian-is-listening-in-on-your-conversations-484914.shtml So they can and maybe will obfuscate malicious code that will make it into chromium browser and later edge.
- HotCakeXFeb 19, 2020MVPI didn't forget that, simply didn't plan to go that far in history since KDE and Google are not directly connected in terms of Chromium code,

Except it's not G's code but originally Apple's code (webkit) that Google stole/forked/whatever.HotCakeX Big deal. Did you forget (or ignore) the fact that WebKit itself was a fork of KDE's libs? Also, I was talking about Chromium as a whole, which is much more than just Blink (G's WebKit fork you're talking about).
Back on topic - Warn on Close and Don't Close Window when Closing Last Tab need to be implemented as options, stat.
- HotCakeXFeb 08, 2020MVPI agree. Chromium is one of the successful open source software

As for the whole discussion about Google's control over Chromium, the fact that it's Free and Open Source puts me at ease because the Open Source aspect means "anyone is freely licensed to use, copy, study and change the software" (ref1). Therefore:
- Google has influence, but NOT control.
- Anyone can see all of the code, so there can be no hidden tracking/data mining
- No browser developer is obligated to make calls to Chromium modules that only serve Google's purposes.

and that's the code thousands of people are writing and contributing. - krameshkFeb 07, 2020Brass ContributorLet's face it, the others are basing their browsers on G's project and (majority) G's code, so they don't have a choice really. They can (like MS did) do extra work to yank out G crap they don't want from their own forks, but it's obvious that any code accepted into Chromium would likely be what might benefit Chrome primarily. Well, whatever the pros and cons it was MS' own decision to switch to Chromium, and now they have to lie on the bed they've made...
There's a lot more we can discuss about the switch, but I don't want to derail this discussion any more from Warn on Close and other related important features. - HotCakeXFeb 07, 2020MVPSpoiler

Obviously it goes without saying that any code you submit that would be accepted would have to be generic and useful to all Chromium-based browsers and not target any specific one. Anyway, I was just commenting on how it's possible for someone outside of MS to get stuff added to Edge. Never said it would be easy!

Hmm so Google thinks all of the browser vendors i mentioned above find their services useful and that's why they fill Chromium with their proprietary and data mining services. XD

Opera, Epic browser, Brave browser, Vivaldi, Yandex browser, Chrome, Edge and lots of others use the same code.
