Discussion - Getting back to websites important to you
1. How many groups of tabs did you have set aside in the Legacy Microsoft Edge?
2. How long did you typically keep these groups of set aside tabs?
3. Are you aware of or have you used the Recently closed tabs experience which is accessible in the More menu (…) and in the full page History experience (Edge 83 Canary/Dev/Beta)?
- Recently closed tabs automatically saves your 25 most recently closed tabs and browser windows with their tab history for 2 browser sessions. When you restore a recently closed tab or browser window, it is removed from Recently closed. You can use the Ctrl (CMD on macOS) + Shift + T shortcut to quickly restore closed tabs or browser windows.
What do you think about the Recently closed tabs experience?
4. Do you use the "Continue where you left" setting (edge://settings/onStartup) which automatically restores the tabs from your last active browser window on browser restart? Why or why not?
Yes, I use it all the time, why?
- useful in many scenarios like when accidental closed browser,
- I want to use the tabs I was using in earlier session (most important)
5. How do your use cases differ amongst Tab Set Aside, Collections, and Recently closed tabs?
Tab set aside:
- Useful for having different browser sessions for different type of tasks,
- Helpful in organizing the workflow efficiently (different groups for different works)
- Much easier to use than collections and recently closed tabs (actually recently closed tabs are horrific)
Collections:
- As the name suggest, for collecting all types of things from internet
- like different types of shopping,
- like having an organized info or collection of articles and other useful stuff in a single collection
- adding different notes to those collections
- adding comments/notes to collections
- easily share with others (I hope this feature got extended)
- Add option to collaborate with other users collections (would be very useful)
- Many other threads on use cases are there in this forum regarding collections, you can search for them.
Recently closed tabs:
- I don't use them at all except the shortcut key Ctrl (CMD on macOS) + Shift + T shortcut to quickly restore closed tabs or browser windows.
Note:
- I hope you improve collections feature, Right now it's not that of useful and feels slow when compared to set aside tabs.
- Either give support for set aside tabs or add similar capability to collections (unifying similar collections is always better), right now collections can't be used for replacement of set aside tabs.
