Dev channel update to 96.0.1032.0 is live
MarkBarbieri Let's see if it's an issue with your user profile first. Can you create a new profile in Dev and see if you can get notifications to work in it?
josh_bodner Ok, tried that. I enabled notifications on guantface and got the Edge approval dialog, but notifications still don't work with a new profile.

josh_bodner OK, I've managed to solve this.
As you suggested, I uninstalled the Dev branch and reinstalled, but no improvement. I tried renaming the profile folder which forced it to go through the first-run experience and create a new profile, but it was still no better.
I created a new system logon user and notifications with the Dev version worked fine.
So at this stage I was suspicious that the notification preferences in macOS were somehow screwed. Lot's of searching on the web to try and find out how to force reset the system notification preferences yielded nothing. Lot of suggestions to delete com.apple.ncprefs.plist and a variety of other files with many reboots, but still no success.
Finally, I stumbled on this ridiculously simple solution. From the Notifications settings sections in System Preferences, I selected "Microsoft Edge Dev", the pressed the 'Delete' key on the keyboard (there is no delete/remove option in the Preferences UI). Unexpectedly, it deleted the app from the Notification preferences, then on next launch of Dev the system prompted me to Allow/Deny Notifications from Edge Dev. Now it works perfectly even though my settings in Notifications are identical to what they were previously as well as all the other Edge channels I now have installed.
Even now that I know this, I could still find no reference on the web to suggest that this was even possible, but it indeed does delete the app from the Notifications preferences. I only had this idea after reading another forum that suggested that delete works as a keyboard shortcut for removing an option in Safari Preferences. In that case though, the UI does have a remove button and 'Delete' is just a shortcut.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone else. I don't really know what was wrong, but it was definitely a system issue.
Many thanks again for your time and suggestions to resolve this. It is very much appreciated.

MarkBarbieri Aha, not what I would have guessed! Thanks for letting me know. Have you tried manually uninstalling Dev (while keeping your user data intact) and then reinstalling it from the Insider website? That would also help narrow down whether it's something with the whole browser's configuration or whether the installation itself got corrupted.
