Dev channel update to 91.0.864.1 is live
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 91.0.864.1 to the Dev channel. This is our final build for version 91, give or take a small patch or two, so this is what’s coming soon to a Beta near you! Since it’s the end of a release, there’s not much to talk about, although we do have a small announcement for our mobile Insiders who have Apple devices: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/articles/microsoft-edge-insiders-and-our-ios-testflight-app/m-p/2272598. As for what’s new in the product:
Added features:
- Added options to print documents at their actual size or to fit them to the page.
- Added an option to prompt before closing a window with multiple tabs open.
- Added the ability to clear Media Foundation data on demand. Note that on-exit is coming later.
- Enabled Math Helper by default on Mac and Windows now that the rollout has completed.
- Added a management policy to enable Math Solver.
- Enabled support for the Chromium management policy to control Explicitly Allowed Network Ports.
- Added support for ClickOnce on Windows 7.
Improved reliability:
- Fixed a crash when dragging and dropping tabs.
- Fixed a crash on launch that makes it appear as though the browser isn’t opening.
- Fixed an issue where certain websites crash a few seconds after loading.
- Fixed a crash when interacting with the Favorites popup.
- Fixed a crash when sorting Collections.
- Fixed a crash when Collections sync is enabled.
- Fixed a crash when closing tabs while popups like the Find On Page bar are open.
- Fixed a crash when Shopping is enabled.
Changed behavior:
- Fixed an issue where the favicons for the Top Sites tiles on the New Tab Page are broken.
- Fixed an issue where Collections appear to have no items in them even though they do.
- Fixed an issue Collections deletes and undeletes sometimes don’t work or don’t sync.
- Fixed an issue where the Site Information popup incorrectly states that webpages currently being viewed in Immersive Reader are aren’t secure even though the original webpage was.
- Fixed an issue where the management policy to Save Cookies On Exit isn’t working for certain websites when the Default Cookies Setting is set to delete cookies on exit (option 4).
- Fixed an issue on Linux where online voices for Read Aloud sometimes aren’t working.
- Fixed an issue where the basic authentication prompt appears for websites when the Windows Hello prompt is expected because a management policy is set.
- Improved the Immersive Reader keyboard shortcut to apply to more pages.
- Fixed an issue where Immersive Reader eligibility for some pages unexpectedly disappears when interacting with the pages.
- Fixed an issue tab drag and drop sometimes doesn’t work with vertical tabs if tabs are pinned.
- Fixed an issue where websites that are installed as apps sometimes don’t handle links that should open in them (instead, the links open in regular tabs).
- Fixed an issue where translating web pages can sometimes cause content on them to disappear.
- Fixed an issue where dropdowns on webpages appear to be autofill data even when they aren’t.
- Fixed an issue where the Device Mode button in the F12 Dev Tools sometimes doesn’t work.
- Fixed an issue where right-clicking on Collections sometimes doesn’t bring up the correct menu.
- Fixed an issue where popups from IE mode tabs sometimes open in regular tabs instead of IE ones.
- Obsoleted the management policy to enable Proactive Auth.
Known issues:
- Certain extensions such as the Microsoft Editor extension don’t work on Linux. As soon as they’re installed, they crash and are disabled. We’re currently investigating.
- Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed. See this help article for more details.
- Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
- Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
- Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated. This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable. We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
- Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other. Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.
Those of you running Stable may have noticed that it also recently updated to version 90, and we couldn’t have gotten there without you!
Hi, thanks for the update,
I think this is the first time Edge Dev and Canary have the same version?
and I'm really Not a fan of these smaller texts in Edge address bar. Revert this back please!
- MWehrstedtIron ContributorI agree with the text size. The small text makes it harder for me to read, especially on higher resolution displays.
- GeorgeOfTheJungleBrass Contributorjust noticed this... it's tiny... I'm squinting 😝
- Russ_TurrentineBrass ContributorUnfortunately, I think a number of people wanted this because it looks similar to the Chrome address bar. What about an option for what it was and what it is now. I think that would be much better. At the moment I'm OK with the smaller text, but the larger text was definitely easier to read.

So frustrating. Stable channel has gone to 90, and the removal of the egregious Open/save-on-download-bar that wrecked the download manager extension I like to use, and all the alternatives, has removed the one thing that was making it unusable for me. I can actually use it for my normal browsing. Except ...
... except I have Dev and Canary installed so I know that when Stable goes to 91 in a few weeks it will become unusable to me again, as Dev and Canary are, from the loss of the great extended toolbar area UI for using (i.e. left and right clicking on) the 20 extension buttons I don't have room for in the toolbar, just the extensions button and its dropdown which, whatever else they may be good for, are hideous for quickly clicking on those 20 buttons - so cumbersome I just can't use that UI for that. All you had to do was ADD the extension button and dropdown for extension management, but make it so turning off the extensions button does not change the visibility-on-toolbar status of extensions (but DOES hide the extensions button), and leave the previous extended toolbar area as it was, with options for the user to choose to display one, the other or both. But no, you just ruined the usability for people like me who use a lot (if 30+ total counts as 'a lot') of extensions.
So there's no point me getting cosy with eminently usable 90 when hyou are just going to make it unusable for me with 91.
.
A usable desktop Edge 90, and sudden big progress (although not quite usable yet) with Android Edge, but killing it with the extension toolbar UI horror show in 91. SO frustrating. (And I realise that people who only use a couple, half a dozen, maybe 10 extensions probably don't realise what the problem is, but with 30 it's MASSIVE.)
- DeletedHello. It seems that channel 90 ... has a Password Manager extension to check - if the password was revealed on the net! This is enabled by default! Of course, not everyone at the same time have this implementation, and many other edge features because it requires a specific working environment of these features and many users do not understand! I know this, of course, but people want to have this function immediately because i write about it in the MTC, I think it is impossible!
- ethanmenzelSteel ContributorWhat would fix the extensions would be to have the option to move them to the left side like vertical tabs but for extensions. I think opera or Vivaldi does this.
- mrfry700Iron ContributorHello Edge team,
Can you please provide the #extensions-toolbar-menu flag? The old extension behavior is much better. I like to hide some of my extension icons in the main menu that don't have badge numbers.
Turning off the show extension button makes all my extension icons appear at once. Turning it on puts an extra icon on my toolbar which I don't want!
Thanks! - ScharkenbergCopper Contributor
I'm a huge fan of the smaller text in the Omnibar and was very upset when the slider for Omnibar's text size was removed some months ago; please keep it this way!
- SumitDhimanIron ContributorI like Smaller text as well in the Omnibar!
- mkonininIron ContributorI also don't like smaller font in omnibar. I'm good with smaller font for showing URL but when I'm typing in the search requests or new URL it is harder to read. But maybe I get used to it.
- shaheedmalikIron ContributorThere is still work that needs to be done with touch and Tablet Mode in Windows 10.
ShyUI still doesn't work in Tablet Mode on Windows 10.
There is no way to have two screens side by side while in ShyUI in Windows 10.
The interface needs to be adjusted for usability while in Tablet Mode in Windows 10.- shaheedmalikIron ContributorAlso putting extensions in the ellipses menu needs to come back. Don't sabotage the browser because Chrome decided to add a puzzle button. This is case of "If it isn't broke, don't fix it."
- YgorCortesSteel ContributorThe smaller font looks VERY out of place, please revert it to how it was or at least give us an option to change it.
- DeletedHello! Currently in the stable channel 90 ... there are so many novelties that are helpful that it is worth mentioning I do not want to mention them, because I do not know how many of them have already been completely released for implementation! In general, I can tell you about the simplest novelty - about the download bar in Edge which is currently at the top of the screen as favourites - this is one of the many changes that are good Thank you very much
- DeletedHello.
I use accessibility and scaling in Windows and of course a greater fond is the basis, please always when designing such changes analyse the ability to read for the less sighted for many older people it is very important to use the system and browser too - azrael99Iron ContributorI downloaded the latest Dev and Canary build to see where this browser is going and lol - still so much bloat and not enough improvements on things that were needed to be improved upon.
The extension button is still there like a wart in the face of a Korean pop star...it's been a couple of months of so called feedback gathering and no options to disable it without using the disable hub command line. It must be really hard to enable a flag line for this huh?
Touch and tablet mode improvements are not being given priority but a math checker needs to be forced thru quick like a vaccine?
Making the text smaller in the address bar is a much wanted feature? How can you people be so tone deaf? Copying Chrome is really doing wonders to your marketshare isn't it lol?
