Dev channel update to 87.0.664.8 is live
The default setting for notifications is still "ask" rather than "block". I appreciate someone somewhere must want them, but would it be worth offering the "block all" option on each pop-up for the rest of us? Not everyone will be able to search for the setting to kill them.

TimIrons Our hypothesis is that more people find value in these notifications than don't, and those folks are also the least likely to be able to find and change a setting, which is currently why we haven't changed the default.

The flaw in that hypothesis is that a website that wants users to enable an option can display instructions or even offer a link to the setting.
No website will voluntarily offer users a way out of being spammed.
I asked my users this morning and their feedback was that while no-one wanted notifications they thought most advertisers would see value in them. None of them had realised they could turn the notifications off.
