Dev channel update to 83.0.467.0 is live
It looks like it occurs on all extensions. I'm getting it with an adblocker and a colour picker extension.
It's driving me mad as my PC's cooling works with CPU usage, so my fans (10 of them) suddenly go in to a tack off mode.
And I got this with the Video Downloadhelper extension.
So the problem seems to be something to do with extensions, but not just one specific one.

DavidGB (and everybody else seeing high CPU use), we think this actually has something to do with heavy Javascript use in general, since it's also been seen in non-extension processes. It seems to be very random though, meaning that it's hard to get into this state on-demand. If anybody can find a way to reproduce this on demand, it would really help our investigation!

josh_bodner I triggered high CPU usage when I use this extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nordvpn-1-vpn-proxy-exten/fjoaledfpmneenckfbpdfhkmimnjocfa
Not only this but one of the way I can reproduce. I've seen this issue even on new tab page. Sometimes closing one tab page with high CPU usage will get another tab page to become high CPU usage. - RobWuijsterApr 03, 2020Iron ContributorHi Josh,
For me it's triggered by running a page that has a videoplayer. e,g, YouTube or PluralSight.
Closing the process will crash the webpage, and I have to refresh it to get back to the content.
The high CPU will not return immediately on the refreshed tabs.
Also, it seems to happen more often when the pc/browser have been in sleep mode? - bhargavreddyApr 02, 2020Iron Contributor
josh_bodner I've seen this occur with new tab page too. Adding to that thought, it just started again when I pressed the reply button to your comment. In the browser task manager, the new tab is seen to consume the CPU most. There's a "dedicated worker" drop-down in its sub-menu. Attaching it for reference.
