Dev channel update to 77.0.230.2 is live
josh_bodner Cheers for the update!
Was this icon change intentional? 🧐 I seem to have gotten the Edge icon without the green "dev" banner.

ikjadoon Uhhhh... you know that your taskbar is slightly taller than usual? You have a thick line of wasted space at the bottom of your monitor.

egrm93 It's unfortunately developed a growth. 😞 We tried everything. Your sympathies, please.
😞
Kidding. If you didn't notice...the screenshot is cropped so you can compare the icons quickly. The Chromium Edge window is, obviously, not maximized....- egrm93Aug 04, 2019Copper Contributor
ikjadoon Lol, but seriously though even if the image is cropped I can see that your taskbar has a few couple of pixels of unused space at the bottom. You can fix it by unlocking the taskbar and resizing it with the mouse!
But I mean, if that's how you like it then by all means keep it that way lol

moghaazi https://www.groovypost.com/howto/howto/add-a-blank-space-to-the-windows-7-taskbar/ what I did some years ago (it says Windows 7, but it should work for Windows 10, too): just note that each blank space must be a separate "application", as you can't pin the same program twice to the taskbar. Here's to hoping one day Windows allows this natively!
F-Lambda Ah, great reminder: we can actually change the icon any time!
Newcastle_Guardian Thanks for checking this. I wonder if this is an easy fix or something related to the Netflix bugs.
I can definitely note that Netflix 1080p still has frame drops in this dev build and the previous dev build, but Twitter videos are on another level of degradation. 😞 Perhaps the fix was only for Netflix 4K

ikjadoon I hope this is intentional. The "dev" banner is kinda ugly and as a dev, I already know what branch I am using; there is no need to see it on my taskbar.

If you Shift + Right-click on the Edge icon in the taskbar while Edge is closed, then you can access the regular shortcut icon right-click menu. You can then edit the shortcut properties, including the icon image.
- savuialexJul 31, 2019Copper ContributorMine's the same as before but I wish it changed because I don't like the green stripe at all.
- ikjadoonJul 31, 2019Bronze Contributor
savuialex I'm on Windows 10 1803, but https://mspoweruser.com/latest-release-preview-build-hides-classic-edge-when-the-new-edge-browser-is-installed/. Once it's out of dev, the stable build won't have any stripes or unusual colors, most likely.
The actual Chromium Edge Dev executable has the correct icon, but just the taskbar icon is off. Not a serious bug, but it's made me wonder if the stable build isn't too far away? Microsoft is using Chromium 77; meanwhile, https://www.chromium.org/developers/calendar. I wonder whether Edge canary / dev / stable will follow Google's release schedule. Just yesterday, both dev builds aligned:
Chrome stable: Chromium 76
Chrome dev: Chromium 77
Chromium canary: Chromium 78
Edge stable: ??
Edge dev: Chromium 77
Edge canary: Chromium 77
- Dennis5mileJul 31, 2019Silver ContributorI just checked mine and I have the green banner on edge dev...

after the update unpin and repin Edge Dev. Then you will have the blue E.
Tried it on 6 PCs and it works. - ikjadoonJul 31, 2019Bronze Contributor
Ah! Maybe the icon switcheroo is a weird bug on my end.
(but that Twitter video bug is 100% real and is happening on all my machines)
