Dev channel update to 101.0.1198.0 is live
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 101.0.1198.0 to the Dev channel. Our big news today is that we’ve officially announced our support for Xbox Cloud Gaming on Steam Deck! Right now, this support requires Edge Beta, and the steps to get it all set up are available here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftEdge/comments/th77w9/microsoft_edge_beta_the_browser_for_xbox_cloud/. Not a Reddit user? We’ve also got a support article here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/xbox-cloud-gaming-in-microsoft-edge-with-steam-deck-43dd011b-0ce8-4810-8302-965be6d53296.
In case you missed it in the last update, we’ve launched a GitHub repo for feedback about the F12 Dev Tools. Also, you may have noticed a tile on the update Welcome page about auto-generated image labels recently. Today, we’ve got a blog post going into more detail about that feature: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2022/03/17/appears-to-say-microsoft-edge-auto-generated-image-labels/. As for everything that’s new and noteworthy this week:

- Added a policy in Internet Explorer Mode to Enable Save page As, which has previously been disabled in IE mode tabs.
- Added support on Mac for the policy to set the Auto Update Check Period in Minutes.
- Developer (note that updates to documentation and SDKs may not have occurred yet):

Known issues:
- Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on YouTube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed. See this help article for more details.
- Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
- Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
- Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other. Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.
It's hard to believe, but because of the delays we had in the last couple of weeks, next week is already our last scheduled release or two for version 101!

josh_bodner As others have reported, this update worked for only a couple of days on my Windows 11 laptop. Now update 101.0.1198.0 constantly crashes on startup, even after uninstalling/reinstalling the latest update. I hope this week's update will include a fix for this. It seems to be working fine on my older desktop PC that runs Windows 10, however.
------------------
EDIT: Found this solution on r/MicrosoftEdge from Leopeva64-2. It worked for me.
Try this:
Add this command line flag to one of the shortcuts and start Edge Dev from that shortcut:
--disable-features=msHub
Full path:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Edge Dev\Application\msedge.exe" --disable-features=msHub
- Harver_YangCopper ContributorI am on the same boat as Dino. The update 101.0.1198.0 constantly crashes on startup on my Windows 11 PC (Build 22581.ni_release.220318-1623)
- josh_bodnerMicrosoftWe've turned off the feature that was causing the crashes, so if you've still got this in your shortcut, you should be able to take it out now and be fine.
- Dino_ZumaIron ContributorThanks, Josh. I noticed that problem disappeared with this week's update. Much appreciated!👍
- MapantzIron Contributor"Use secure DNS to specify how to lookup the network address for websites" STILL not working..

josh_bodner The crash on launch seemed to be fixed, but is again occurring for many of us who experienced it on 101.0.1193.0
- PNvmkpkBrass ContributorFor me it still crashes on startup making it completely unusable. Desperately waiting for the next update, hopefully it will be fixed.
- josh_bodnerMicrosoftYou should have the next update by now, any luck getting it to launch and not crash?

We need dark mode in PDF lector, when?
Could you put an index of the annotations and underlined that are made in the PDF files?, Because the information of what we underline is lost. - Neon01Steel Contributor
With the "Fixed an issue where Spellcheck sometimes doesn’t work" the spell checking is now totally broken for non-system languages, e.g. I run several German Win 10 machines and edge://settings/languages tells me "Spell check dictionary download failed" for all additional languages like English (United States), English (United Kingdom), Italian (Italy) and so on.
This started with v101.0.1198.0 on both Dev and Canary (still present in v101.0.1201.0).
Could the developers pls take a look at this, thanks.
- josh_bodnerMicrosoftWe're already tracking an issue on Linux where dictionary download is failing, so thanks for letting us know this is also happening on Windows!

Hi Josh,
thanks for getting back. I've already sent diagnostic data via feedback, maybe it helps to track down the issue.
Another observation that might be helpful is, that only my Windows 10 machines (20H2) are affected. The Dev and Canary installations on my Windows 8.1 machines don't show the download failure and spellchecking still works flawlessly there.
- Dale HoldenCopper ContributorWhy are vertical tabs still broken in Dev & Canary it has been working for months? You then release it in 100 and 101 knowing it was broken but have not fixed it!!!!
- josh_bodnerMicrosoftCan you define broken? What are you seeing?
- Dale HoldenCopper Contributor
HI Josh
When you guys rolled out 101 you mentioned it as a known issue. In vertical tabs when you use them in groups when you open any group 1 or more icons only shows New Tab but if you click on it it opens the correct tab that should show. I can send you a video it happens constantly and is annoying. Also, not sure if the same deals with this but due to running Dev or Canary i save my vertical tabs groups in collections as edge does not synchronise tab groups (wish it did).
But when i geta crash i tend to lose my tab groups so i recover them from collections. This works great but collections restores them in reverse order which is a pain in the **bleep**. I then have to go through al my groups and rearrange the order of every site. Also it restore is the oppersite order it dispalys in collections.

Dale Holden It is still working
- elkropacBrass ContributorHi, thanks for new release. Still unable to login to my work AAD account for syncing. Edge crashes right away when i allow login in 2FA app on my phone 😞
- josh_bodnerMicrosoftIf you go to edge://crashes, do any of those crashes show up there? If so, can you share the bucket ID?
- elkropacBrass ContributorHi, did not know about this page. It should be 226a0bf42efa16b1afe2b9410b1ff772 , f1bf9537638043a7bc207c7fa471f34c , f1bf9537638043a7bc207c7fa471f34c .
First i tried just to login, second time, i logged out from microsoft SSO before trying to enable login in browser.

[Linux] Settings->System and performance->Optimize Performance section is vanished again. Today's beta(100.0.1185.17) is also affected. Inspite of 100.0.1185.12 doesn't have this issue.
- josh_bodnerMicrosoftWe believe we've made a fix in the most recent Dev update for the performance settings being missing. Can you confirm if you're still seeing this?
