cannot log into instagram using edge on linux mint

this past week i suddenly couldn't log into Instagram on edge for linux. no problems using chrome on same computer, no problems using edge on windows using another computer. cleared all possible caches. deleted installation and reinstalled latest version FROM MS SITE (just in case the software manager's was outdated). tried different accounts. always the same message: 
"There was a problem logging you into Instagram. Please try again soon."

would love to know if anyone else is experiencing this and if it's an MS problem or something  "done".
