Solved

A new NTP is created each time Edge is started (Canary 80.0.335.0)

Hi, this problem also occurs in the last canary releases.   My setting: On startup: Continue where you left off

    • I tried your combination 

     

     

    • tried all available layouts in the NTP

    but still couldn't reproduce it.

     

    here are the flags that I have enabled, maybe one of them is preventing it? they are harmless so you could try them

    • I'm using Windows 10 build/version 19030 insider
    • no extension is installed on my Edge canary which is Version 80.0.341.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit)
    • Tried it on both personal and work profiles (Microsoft accounts)
    • All sync options enabled

     

    my last suggestion is to either fully uninstall/reinstall your Edge canary which ultimately depends on you and how much this problem annoys you, or wait for future canary updates to hopefully fix it 🙂

are you still having this problem?
because I'm checking right now on Edge insider Version 80.0.341.0 (Official build) canary and the problem doesn't seem to exist anymore.

    Yes, the bug persists even with the 80.0.341.0 canary version.

      Just to make sure, you set it in settings to "On startup: Continue where you left off". then for example you have 3 tabs open in your Edge insider canary.
      2 Google search tabs and 1 YouTube video tab (no new tab page open).
      then you close your browser, open it again and you have 4 tabs now, is that correct?

      when I test that scenario on my Edge canary, i can't reproduce it anymore.

      also, are you using any PWAs? (sites added as an app in browser?)

        Yes it's correct. My open tabs: Settings and three other websites.

         

        If I close the browser and open it again, a new NTP appears.
        If I don't close the new NTP and close the browser, when I open it again there will be two NTPs, and so on.

         

        I'm not using any PWA applications.

        I tried resetting the settings, but the problem persists.
