84.0.480.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) shows error on About screen
An error occurred while checking for updates: We couldn't create that component (error code 3: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2068169&0x80040154). Version 84.0.480.0 (Official build) canary ...
- Apr 14, 2020Thanks but it was always an option for everyone at any time, not new to this.
this problem is fixed in the next Canary updates. also the updater works using these methods which is even better than the normal updater since user can set it to check for updates automatically every hour or every minute.

Hi,
Did following troubleshooting steps on my workstation:
- Uninstall Edge Canary version 84.0.480.0
- Install Edge Dev 83.0.474.0, update issue not appear in current version
- Uninstall Edge Dev 83.0.474.0, discover following register keys left:
- Execute "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe" /uninstall
sequence in elevated CMD - Register key "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate"
and folder location:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\" not appear after that sequence - Install Edge Canary version 84.0.480.0, same error appear: We couldn't create that component (error code 3: 0x80040154)
- Uninstall Edge Canary version 84.0.480.0
- Register key "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate"
and folder location:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\" not appear after that - Install Edge Dev 83.0.474.0, everything works fine, got missing icons in Favorites, must re-import
