We're Listening!
Greetings Microsoft Edge Insiders!
Let us start off by saying, welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community! We’re so excited to have you here, and we can’t wait to start learning from you. If you haven’t read our Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community article yet, we recommend starting there. It has a bunch of great information on how we got here and where we’re heading.
Our mission:
Our mission is to create a thriving community of valuable Insiders, like you, so we can closely listen and learn how Microsoft Edge can be better. We believe that having open, honest, and continued conversations with our Insider community is a great way to build a close relationship with our users.
Why do all of this? Because we want to build a browser that’s deeply grounded in your needs. Your voice is the most important piece of helping us build a better Microsoft Edge. The feedback you provide leads to meaningful conversations that may ultimately produce the new features, bug fixes, and other improvements that matter the most to you. Listening is just the beginning for us. Our true goal is to build Microsoft Edge with the voice of the Insider community as our guiding light.
Community voice
When we announced the next version of Microsoft Edge back in December, we asked a simple question: If you could change one thing about the web, what would it be?
We were completely humbled by the over 40k comments you’ve shared with us. That’s a whole lot of ideas. Thank you!
You tell us that you love some things about the current Microsoft Edge browser, like the smooth scrolling experience, our Fluent Design and the precision touchpad, and you hope we’ll bring those things forward into the next version too.
Some of you are frustrated with the way that sites render so differently depending on the browser you're using to view them. You also tell us that Web Standards are on the top of your mind. We hear that you want all browsers to adopt the same standards. We hear from some of you web developers that you want new capabilities added to the web platform; whether that be in CSS, HTML or JavaScript. Another top request is an improved dev tools experience.
We hear that you have strong feelings about online advertising. Some of you wish ads that pop-up would just disappear and the same for auto-playing ads. While others feel a strong desire to remove or fundamentally change how online advertising works on the web. There is concern how these advertisements enable sites to track you as you browse which feels "creepy" and "invasive."
The overwhelming majority of comments (we’re talking thousands of messages) that we have read wish for a change in the fundamental attributes of the web. Make it faster, safer, more reliable and more private. You want your browsers to have smaller memory footprints, lower battery consumption, higher rendering speed and better stability. We agree with you wholeheartedly! The attributes that you say matter most in your browsing experience are performance, privacy, and reliability. So that is where we are starting.
We are focusing on delivering outstanding fundamentals. Speed, stability, accessibility, compatibility, security, and privacy are always top of mind for us. We are using your comments and suggestions to guide us while we are getting the new Microsoft Edge ready for its debut.
What’s next?
In the meantime, jump in, download the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, and let us know what you think. What’s working well? Where do we need to improve? Over time, we hope to build healthy engagement and feedback loops with our community members.
We’re also mindful that our users have preferred ways to engage with us. Whether you view the latest information on the Microsoft Edge Insider website, enjoy direct discussions on our forum, need a personal support assistant via help (F1), share your feedback and suggestions via the smiley face, or just want to give us a shout on Twitter, we’re always listening and looking for ways to reach out wherever our users feel most comfortable and prefer to talk to us. We’re all ears!
Thank you for being here. We look forward to listening and engaging with you.

my corporate benefits and pension are with Great West Life. I got a new Surface and started using edge. But my GWL websites sill not load with automatic passwords. The two portals will not even allow me access even if I put in the password. I called GWL it support and the first thing they say is to go to chrome as edge does not work.

Elliot Kirk Where is the Snipping and Annotation tool from Edge browser? That was a great feature that needs to come back.

This is referring to Add notes. Many of us are saying this is one of the 'Must haves'.
One can sort of use Snip & Sketch in the meantime... albeit, that misses the ability to share or send the 'item' somewhere right within the browser, as Edge, presently, does.
Cheers,
Drew

It seems the latest build (Version 76.0.174.0) is blocking some websites, such as https://www.etoro.com. Checked that with other browsers and it works well. - Dan_AI4GKIron Contributor
@Elliott_Kirk, so far I'm really enjoying Canary and Dev. I use both almost exclusively, but Canary more so. Currently, I'm using Dark Mode. I'm having trouble seeing which tab is active, because I have a half bazillion of them open at any one time. (Testament to the power of Chromium Edge.) I see that the active tab is darker, but with this many open it's difficult to see, at a glance. Please consider a contrasting color for the active tab in both Canary and Dev. Also waiting to see Set Aside Tabs and reveal tabs on mouse hover--or, the down arrow to show tab thumbnails. Thanks very much!
- Drew1903Silver ContributorDan,
I'm with you about seeing the Active tab. If you can bring yourself to using an OS Accent colour that allows a wee bit of contrast they DO stand out nicely. I use Dark, also.
Cheers,
Drew
Sent from my Windows Phone- Dan_AI4GKIron ContributorHey Drew,
Thanks for the tip! It works very nicely, just as you said!

Elliot Kirk Please consider adding an option to place address bar next to tabs, to "shave off" one more line in the vertical space. Our displays can have plenty of width, but height is precious.

The new Youtube seems to be inoperative on the edge dev browser as of today...When I tried opening the new Youtube, it says that this browser does not support that new youtube site
- Dennis5mileSilver ContributorI just tried YouTube and I've had no trouble at all in any of my accounts there...... Plays everything I have clicked on.....
So I would say it is not an Edge Dev problem, which could mean almost anything from a setting you have either on your system or within Edge Dev or just how Edge Dev runs on your particular system. The Best thing for you to do is click that little smiley in the upper right corner of your browser while you are logged into YouTube. Send in the feedback...
Dennis5mile- harrazotame123Copper ContributorDid you realise the difference between the new and old Youtube? It seems that the one I visited on the Edge Dev browser is the old one, the new one is quite different.

Elliot Kirk i have more of a suggestion, VPN and adblock preinstalled in browser, if vpn is not possible at least an adblock so people dont need to reach for third party apps
- Drew1903Silver ContributorThe ad block is a good idea as standard equipment. True, would save everyone from having to add as standard procedure.
Cheers,
Drew- TorstenDittmannCopper ContributorI don't think adding adblock as a default is a good option.
1. Microsoft is making money with ads.
2. Ads are necessary for many online services to survive.
3. I don't like the idea, that everything on the internet has to be for free. I do like to have the option of disabling ads, but only for money. Many sites offer great service for free and only run ads.
So most adblock users have a weird attitude IMO when using free services like YouTube and blocking ads.
I hate stuff like flashy ads, pop-ups or scam that's disguised as "related news". But I rather endure such ads or stop visiting certain websites anymore, than increasing the need of paywalls.
So please, don't add a built-in adblock :-)
- yoSachinIron ContributorWhy Microsoft Edge team is not using XAML islands with their new Microsoft Edge (chromium) browser?

Elliot Kirk Microsoft used to have Avatars that were major on xbox 360 and play a small role in a lot of the development of new software. It would awesome if my avatar from xbox could be incorporated into the browser somehow.
