We're Listening!
Greetings Microsoft Edge Insiders!
Let us start off by saying, welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community! We’re so excited to have you here, and we can’t wait to start learning from you. If you haven’t read our Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community article yet, we recommend starting there. It has a bunch of great information on how we got here and where we’re heading.
Our mission:
Our mission is to create a thriving community of valuable Insiders, like you, so we can closely listen and learn how Microsoft Edge can be better. We believe that having open, honest, and continued conversations with our Insider community is a great way to build a close relationship with our users.
Why do all of this? Because we want to build a browser that’s deeply grounded in your needs. Your voice is the most important piece of helping us build a better Microsoft Edge. The feedback you provide leads to meaningful conversations that may ultimately produce the new features, bug fixes, and other improvements that matter the most to you. Listening is just the beginning for us. Our true goal is to build Microsoft Edge with the voice of the Insider community as our guiding light.
Community voice
When we announced the next version of Microsoft Edge back in December, we asked a simple question: If you could change one thing about the web, what would it be?
We were completely humbled by the over 40k comments you’ve shared with us. That’s a whole lot of ideas. Thank you!
You tell us that you love some things about the current Microsoft Edge browser, like the smooth scrolling experience, our Fluent Design and the precision touchpad, and you hope we’ll bring those things forward into the next version too.
Some of you are frustrated with the way that sites render so differently depending on the browser you're using to view them. You also tell us that Web Standards are on the top of your mind. We hear that you want all browsers to adopt the same standards. We hear from some of you web developers that you want new capabilities added to the web platform; whether that be in CSS, HTML or JavaScript. Another top request is an improved dev tools experience.
We hear that you have strong feelings about online advertising. Some of you wish ads that pop-up would just disappear and the same for auto-playing ads. While others feel a strong desire to remove or fundamentally change how online advertising works on the web. There is concern how these advertisements enable sites to track you as you browse which feels "creepy" and "invasive."
The overwhelming majority of comments (we’re talking thousands of messages) that we have read wish for a change in the fundamental attributes of the web. Make it faster, safer, more reliable and more private. You want your browsers to have smaller memory footprints, lower battery consumption, higher rendering speed and better stability. We agree with you wholeheartedly! The attributes that you say matter most in your browsing experience are performance, privacy, and reliability. So that is where we are starting.
We are focusing on delivering outstanding fundamentals. Speed, stability, accessibility, compatibility, security, and privacy are always top of mind for us. We are using your comments and suggestions to guide us while we are getting the new Microsoft Edge ready for its debut.
What’s next?
In the meantime, jump in, download the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, and let us know what you think. What’s working well? Where do we need to improve? Over time, we hope to build healthy engagement and feedback loops with our community members.
We’re also mindful that our users have preferred ways to engage with us. Whether you view the latest information on the Microsoft Edge Insider website, enjoy direct discussions on our forum, need a personal support assistant via help (F1), share your feedback and suggestions via the smiley face, or just want to give us a shout on Twitter, we’re always listening and looking for ways to reach out wherever our users feel most comfortable and prefer to talk to us. We’re all ears!
Thank you for being here. We look forward to listening and engaging with you.

I downladed Edge Canary, and it's really fast and generally good. But, i really miss change default search engine function. It would be good if you add this :D

Hi Elliot Kirk, is there any plan to add High Contrast support?
When High Contrast setting (Start -> Settings -> Ease of Access -> High Contrast) is turned on, the Chakra based edge will display all sites in high contrast. But with Chromium based, they are not displayed in high contrast. This is also one of the reason I prefer to use either IE or Edge.
Chakra based

Chromium based

Certainly there are extensions out there, but the confidence level of picking the right one is zero. Unless if Microsoft is publishing it, I will add it without raising any question.
- Elliot KirkFormer EmployeeHi tulis, Accessibility is one of the first areas that we are focusing on in our collaboration in the Chromium project. You can read more about our intentions here: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/04/08/microsoft-edge-preview-channel-details/
I will also bring this suggestion back to the accessibility team.

I'm really liking the preview so far! I found it really easy to get started and appreciate the ability to install extensions from the Chrome store, such as Zenhub. The only blocker I see right now is that I cannot install the BrowserStack Local app from the Chrome store, which is a pretty essential part of my day-to-day work. When I try, I get an Edge message saying that Apps and Themes are not supported.
Are there any plans to provide support for apps like BrowserStack Local? Thanks and keep up the great work!

Just wanted to say, so far no issues and I really like the feel, like a lot of people I think edge was not as userfriendly as Explorer but I think the changes are all looking positive so far.
Any issues I will let you know but so far, so good.
- Elliot KirkFormer EmployeeGreat thepureoption! Please let us know what you like and what you don't. All feedback helps us to make the best browser possible.

Will do but I please add that it does need themes as it's all so grey, great for accountants, not great for non accoutants

Elliot Kirk Please add the "Set tabs aside" feature from legacy Edge. It was the feature I used and liked most about it.

Elliot Kirk Just tried out new Edge for the first time. Let me just express how happy I am that you kept the "click to mute tab" functionality that Chrome used to have before it was removed.
That feature alone is worth making the switch over to Edge, its performing flawlessly.
Even got some extensions from the chrome extension store, like "Dark Reader", and it works perfectly.
Video on Twitch renders smooth and starts quickly.
Great job! I never thought I'd say this but, it looks like I'm going back to a Microsoft browser.
- Elliot KirkFormer EmployeeGlad you are enjoying the new browser so far. Please keep using it and let us know as we continue to update.

Will be icons updated ? Old edge using as default favorite icon "star" and folder is colored. With new "file/folder" non colored icons it is visualy almost same and make orientation on favorites bar much problematic. I am aware that most people favorite sites with favicon but there is still situation where it doesn't work.
- Elliot KirkFormer EmployeeThis is great feedback Radek_Voltr. I will make sure that this is brought back to the favorites team.

Radek_Voltr Yeah they should update that bookmarks bar on the New tab too, and make it either transparent (below the Bing or New Tab background/image) not as it's own background color section, seperate to the page itself, when undocked, but when docked to the Edge chrome bar itself, I think it should be as half as tall as the main chrome bar, when it detects touch, as tall as main Chrome bar itself.
And yea, I think the default bookmark favicon should be back to Star, and I think Edge team should coommit to the Chromium project, and make a service that keeps updating Page title or favicon of that bookmark, so when it fails, it'll still have the proper page title or favicon (e.g. you bookmark it fast before the page even finished loading, the page title or favicon changed)

Can we get the "search website from address bar" feature from Chrome? In Chrome, user would be able to enter the website URL, and press tab to search from that website directly from the address bar. For example, a user could enter in "youtube.com," press tab, then begin typing, press enter, and have a youtube video result come up right after. Please implement into Edge.
- Elliot KirkFormer EmployeeThank you for the suggestion, matthewclso.
- Chris2020Copper ContributorIs there a way you guys can allow chrome themes from chrome store because i have a red & black theme i like to install and also i don't know you brought this feature over but can you still keep reading mode i actually loved it and used it alot helps with my schoolwork blocks annoying ads and helps me stay focused.
- Elliot KirkFormer EmployeeHi Chris2020, you should be able to install extensions after opening the Extension settings (edge://extensions/) and clicking on the "Allow extensions from other stores."
