*Updated 9/3* Syncing in Microsoft Edge Preview Channels
- May 18, 2019
Hi All,
We have rolled out a fix to the problem where clients were reporting error on sync. We expect an app restart should get the client back into a functional state for sync now. We so much appreciate your patience and willingness to help all this while. Apologies that it took us time to get this fix across to you. If you still see any errors, please submit using in-app feedback button (and drop me a private message so that we jump on it faster). Sincere thanks for working with us on building a better product.

Deleted Thanks for trying our beta channel. We have recently updated this article (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Articles/Updated-9-3-Syncing-in-Microsoft-Edge-Preview-Channels/m-p/510159) to reflect the latest status of sync. As called out in the article, Extension sync is not yet enabled. Your settings are expected to sync. Which settings were you expecting to sync from Canary to Beta channel?
Of course you are right... extensions don't sync yet. I guess that was just wishful
thinking. ![]()
I was thinking that all setting that are currently defined in the Beta would sync. I had quite a few that didn't sync. These are the ones that I noticed that didn't sync:
Addresses, phone, numbers, and more
Passwords
Show home button
New Tab Page > Custom layout
Allow sites to check if you have payment info saved
Site permissions
Camera
Microphone
Motion or light sensors
Handlers
Downloads
Ask where to save each file before downloading
Thanks,
Bill

So, should the settings I mentioned be synced or is there a bug?

I think, you can pretty much check for yourself - edge://sync-internals/
there you can see what exactly is synced. It's not convenient tho for basic users, but again, we all are part of beta testing, so it shouldn't be issue. (:EDIT:
Alright, I was bored anyway.
This is what preferences sync contain:

Thanks for your reply. Well, I am a beta tester, but I am also a neophyte having never used Edge before the Canary version of Edge Chromium. I don't really understand what is described in your image. I don't know how these relate to individual settings. Are you saying that of all the settings these are the only ones that sync? I know that for me the show home button value didn't sync although it seems to be in the list you posted.
If Microsoft is going to have an option to sync settings I think most people are going to think this means that all settings are going to sync. To have only a subset sync is very misleading.

Deleted Who knows? Microsoft won't tell us what they included with Settings. To me, it should involve everything in the Settings page. Isn't that what we should expect? Please, Elliot Kirk, enlighten us.

Deleted Microsoft has been claiming for quite a while now that Settings are synced. But it's not true. The vast majority of Settings are not synced. I have placed a bug report about pretty much the same list as the one you have put together. I asked Elliot Kirk because I thought there might be a small chance I didn't understand properly what they meant by synced settings.

Thanks. I would have thought they would not have moved into a public beta if that function was still not working, but apparently they did. I think they should really warn people that it isn't working otherwise people will rely on it at their own peril. Hope Microsoft gets this fixed before they go GA.

Absolutely... it is imperative that this syncing issue be adequately, satisfactorily, fully & permanently addressed by yesterday, at the very latest. The troops doth grow weary & worried.
Allegedly, there is a pot full of stuff cooking. Hard not to be anxious & curious about when it'll have all its ingredients added... one wonders when it'll be done & ready to serve, too.
Cheers,
Drew
