I have no wish to save a favourite to the desktop. What I am hoping for is to be able to keep a column of favorites open such that it will still be open when I swith the PC on in the morning and open edgeR_Starzuft

As to Favorites. You would still need to open Edge and then click on the 'Star' with the three dashes next to it.
If your list of favorites is on that does not change often you have a couple of options :
1. You can save the Favorites (which are like web links) to the Start menu as tiles. Which does not require Edge to be open.
2. You could 'pin' your favorites to taskbar.
3. If you are using Edge 'vertical tabs' you could 'pin' your favorites as vertical tabs in Edge. However you might want to set the tabs to 'sleep' so Edge does not keep them all open and slow down your system.
Most other options for this would require some 'programming and maintenance' on your part. How many favorites do you need to appear on the desktop and how often do they need to be changed or updated ? Saving the favorites to the Tiles in Start seems to be the easiest to maintain.
Note: There is a way to display a list of Favorites across the top of the Edge window. The ones displayed are Favorites that are saved to the Favorites Bar folder in Favorites.
1. Click on the three dots (upper right) in Edge.
2. Click on the word 'Favorites' in the dropdown that appears.
3. Click on the three dot menu in that dropdown menu.
4. Click on 'Show Favorites Bar' .
5. Click on 'Always' to display the Favorites Bar in Edge.
You can follow the same steps to Turn the feature off by selecting the alternate choices.
You can edit the Favorites Bar folder in Favorites to choose what you want displayed.
Recommended : Try out the Collections option to save your links / favorites instead. Collections is an easier way to read them and allows you to even add notes. Collections is still under development and the organizational tools that are being added make it more versatile than Favorites for some things. Collections icon is the one on the menu bar with the square with the + plus sign in it .

- Trevor AppletonMay 25, 2021Copper ContributorI usually have 30 or 40 in a column permanently open. I'm a meteorologist and ne3ed to **bleep** between all these different charts.
If not possible in Edge I’ll have to stick with Firefox- R_StarzuftJan 09, 2023Iron ContributorAs an alternative you can create shortcuts on your desktop and name them for the chart types you use. You could then put them in a folder you can open with one click.
Ex:
1. Highlight the link in Edge (the part with HTTPS), right-click and select 'Copy' ( your 'copy' selection will be saved at this point.
2. Now, go to blank area on your desktop and right-click. Move your mouse to display the line that says 'NEW'. A list of choices appears. Select 'Shortcut'. A new panel will open to 'create shortcut'.
3. Move your mouse to the blank rectangle below 'Type the location of the item'. Now, right-click to open another panel and select 'Paste' to paste the link you saved in Step #1. Click the word NEXT.
4. On the 'Create shortcut' panel type in the NAME you want to see to describe the thing (chart or other) that you want the shortcut to open when you click on it. Click Finish to create the shortcut.
Options:
A. To change the ICON for your shortcut:
A1. Right Click on the Icon, select Properties.
A2. On the properties panel that opens select 'Change Icon'
A3. Select an Icon you want to use (left click on it). Then click OK. (not done yet!)
A4. Click on the word 'Apply' at the bottom of the panel. The icon on your shortcut should change at this point. Now click 'OK' to close the panel and finish with the shortcut.
After all that work: Click on your shortcut to test it out 🙂
Adjustments: If the link is not exactly what you wanted. You can right click the icon and select properties. You can remove the current link (URL) and paste in whatever replacement you want there.
If the name needs to be fixed, you will need to right click the name under the icon and find 'Rename' in the options. (you might find it under 'show more options') and rename the shortcut.
After you make a bunch of these you can create a blank folder: On desktop, right click on blank space and move mouse over NEW and select folder. Type in a name like 'Desk Folder' and press enter. You can then drag all the shortcuts into the folder and have them all available from there if you want to reduce clutter on the desktop.- Dan_AI4GKJan 09, 2023Iron Contributor
R_Starzuft yes, I've done that 100 times, at least. Another step that one can do is open a separate desktop just for their shortcuts.
- Karl-WEJan 08, 2023MVPgive it a try now. Sleeping tabs is a great help. If you need to have live updates you can exclude certain tabs from sleeping. Also (better in vertical tabs) you can create tab groups. It is neat.
