William Devereux I don't like it:
- I need a more clicks to access my downloads
- I loose track of the autodownloaded malware in every malicious add page.
- I need a lot more clicks to access to the Download Manager (Ctl+J + Click + Click).
- Is harder to see in the top right corner in a small icon.
It's fine that you want to improve something, but something that is useful for you is useless for others, that's why we need an option to get back the old download bar.

for your second point i agree and asked for a policy to control the displaying of the download hub when a download starts. By force-enabling this this may help to prevent users from pit-falling into drive-by-downloads.
