Credentials not recognized in Azure VM

I created a virtual machine three days ago and everything was working fine.  Today, I could not log on via RDP -- user not recognized.  Same saved credentials that worked 3 days ago.  I deleted the VM and created a new one. same name, same credentials, different public RDP port.  Same issue.  Services health is reporting good.  See attached screen shotScreen shot showing account exists, and RDP error showing it doesn't.
