One Drive Personal Vault Lock Notification

Hi,

How do you turn on the Windows 11 - One Drive - Personal Vault - "Keep Personal Vault open" notification? May not have worded it exactly right but that is the essence of the question.

Am on Windows 11 (personal), open One Drive, click on Personal Vault, unlock Personal Vault, Personal Vault file explorer page opens. So far no problems - works as expected.

Setting for Personal Vault is to keep open for 1 hour. At the end of the hour, I used to get a notification asking if I still wanted to keep the vault open.

Now - no notification and vault locks.

How do I get this notification back?

As said on Windows 11 with April update - have not done May yet.

One of the most aggravating things about Windows and updates - is that some settings - not know to you or identified - are changed. And now you encounter different or unknown behavior. Incredibly frustrating when you just want your PC to work like you are used to.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

  • hi SimplyHuman It sounds like the notification itself may have been disabled or changed after a Windows/OneDrive update rather than the Personal Vault feature actually being broken.

    first check:

    Settings → System → Notifications

Make sure notifications are enabled globally

Make sure Microsoft OneDrive notifications are specifically allowed

    Also check whether:

Focus Assist / Do Not Disturb is enabled

Notification banners are turned off for OneDrive

    You could also try:

Signing out of OneDrive and signing back in

    Or resetting OneDrive

Unfortunately, Windows updates do sometimes change/reset notification behavior quietly, especially around security-related features like Personal Vault, so you’re definitely not the only one who has run into this kind of frustration.

Thanks - have performed the checks and all were good. Just updated to May updates and hopefully that will help - somehow.

Ok - finally changed the time out option to 20 minutes and then waited to see if the notification would show. And it did - what exactly changed to get the notification back - have no idea.  Thank you for the steps.

However, there is still an issue> When the notice shows, you have 2-3 seconds to read and click on 'Keep Open' before the notice disappears and that is not enough time when busy elsewhere on the desktop to read and then click on 'Keep Open'. Subsequently, even if you become active in the Personal Vault - the Vault will still lock - your activity will not prevent the vault from locking. And if you have a file open (Word or Excel or PP) that is based in the vault, you lose that work. And you cannot go into notifications to access that notification to click on it. It disappears. There needs to be a correction in OneDrive/Personal Vault/Windows11 to correct for this fault.
