Need to create .pst file from Outlook 2010

Outlook 2010

Old computer has Windows 10 and Office 2016 and Outlook 2010

On 9-7-25 Outlook would no longer send or receive emails.

I cannot print emails but I can read them and view any attachments and see all my “Contacts”.

I tried to back up the “.pst” file to “Import” it into the new 2024 Outlook.

When I select “Open” and “Import” the screen states “Not Implemented”.

In reading queries in Google I found this was a problem experienced by many users.

I have also run the repair function (scanpst.exe.) for Outlook 2010 on the old computer.

It found errors and made the repair.

After restarting the old computer I am still unable to back up the “.pst” file.

There is 17 GB still free on the old “C” drive.

I have built a new computer and downloaded and installed Window 11 Home.

I have installed 2024 Office Home and Business which has Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. (Perpetual License)

My old version of Outlook 2010 and activation key was destroyed with my household contents in a flood from hurricane Debby last year.

Can MS provide a version and key for a newer Outlook that I can download\install so that I can backup the “.pst” file from the old computer or any other possible solution? I will only need use of it to make the “.pst” file for emails and contacts for the new Outlook 2024.

  • hi WilliamD529 Outlook 2010 no longer sending/receiving and the “Not Implemented” error when trying to export. A few points that may help:

You don’t need to “export” to create a PST.

Outlook already stores all your mail, contacts, and calendar data in a .pst (or .ost) file by default. You can usually locate it here:

    C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\

Look for files ending in .pst. If you find one, copy it directly to your new computer — you don’t need to open Outlook 2010 or use the Import/Export wizard.

    Import into Outlook 2024.

On the new PC with Outlook 2024:

    Open Outlook

Go to File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File

Browse to the .pst you copied

This should let you see your emails and contacts without relying on the broken “export” in Outlook 2010.

    If the PST is damaged.

You already ran scanpst.exe, which is the right step. If you still get errors opening it in Outlook 2024, try running scanpst multiple times until it reports no issues — it sometimes needs more than one pass.

    About Microsoft providing a key/version.

Microsoft won’t issue a replacement key for Outlook 2010 or a temporary license just for migration. The good news is you don’t need it: as long as you can copy the .pst file from the old system, Outlook 2024 can open it.

    Backups.

Since the file may be large (sometimes >10GB), consider copying it onto an external USB drive, then move it to the new machine.

copy the existing .pst file from your old computer and open it in Outlook 2024 — no export or new Outlook install needed.
