M365 Subscription required to build Office add-ins
Hello,
I'm looking to expand our product offering by creating an extension for Microsoft Outlook that integrates into our product.
When looking at the docs for this, it says the following is a requirement: "Office connected to a Microsoft 365 subscription (including Office on the web).”
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dev/add-ins/quickstarts/outlook-quickstart-yo
I’m just wondering what level of the Office 365 Business plan is needed to develop this platform.
Thanks,
Sam

To develop an Outlook add-in, you'll need a Microsoft 365 subscription that includes access to Outlook. The specific level of the Office 365 Business plan required depends on the features you need for development. For instance, Office 365 Business Standard and Office 365 Business Premium plans provide access to Outlook and support add-in development. Additionally, you might consider joining the Microsoft 365 Developer Program to obtain a free Microsoft 365 E5 developer subscription, which includes Outlook and other Office applications suitable for development purposes.

For creating an Outlook integration with your product, it is advised to have at least a Microsoft 365 Business Standard plan. This plan offers the APIs and other resources required for developing Office Add-ins, including those for Outlook. Furthermore, it allows Office on the web, which is necessary to test and deploy your extension.
The Microsoft 365 Business Premium and Enterprise plans may be useful if you are looking for more sophisticated features or extra development resources. Nevertheless, the Microsoft 365 Business Standard plan should be adequate for most development purposes.
