Issues with Multiple Microsoft Accounts Using the Same Phone Number

Hi everyone,

I’m having a frustrating issue with my Microsoft accounts and hoping for some advice. I have three separate Microsoft accounts, each with a different email address, because I have three separate Minecraft accounts. However, all three accounts are linked to the same mobile phone number.

The problem is that every time I try to verify ownership of one account using my phone number, one of the other accounts seems to go inactive or gets flagged. It seems Microsoft doesn’t handle multiple accounts sharing the same phone number very well.

Has anyone dealt with something similar, or does anyone know a safe way to manage multiple Microsoft accounts tied to the same number without causing issues for the others?

Thanks in advance!

  • hi martinhocking It sounds like it is getting confused because the same phone number is tied to multiple accounts — it’s treated as a unique security ID. A good workaround is to use Microsoft Authenticator for sign-ins instead of SMS, and assign different recovery options (like alternate emails) to each account. Also, be sure to sign out of all sessions before verifying ownership. If the issue continues, Microsoft Account Support can help separate your verification methods safely.
