Anyone else feel like Teams is turning into Slack but slower?

Been using Teams at work and lately it feels like they’re adding a ton of features that kinda look like Slack (channels, reactions, integrations etc). But somehow it all feels heavier and slower to use. Curious if others feel the same or if it’s just me being impatient.

You're definitely not alone—many users feel that Microsoft Teams is becoming more like Slack in terms of features (channels, threads, emojis, integrations), but with slower performance and a heavier UI. While Teams has strong integration with Microsoft 365, it can feel bloated, especially in large orgs or slower machines. Slack tends to be snappier and more focused on real-time messaging, while Teams tries to be an all-in-one collaboration suite. So yes, your impatience is valid—it's a common sentiment among Teams users.

You're not alone—many users feel the same way. Microsoft Teams has been adding Slack-like features (channels, emojis, integrations), but it often feels more bloated and slower in performance. Unlike Slack’s lightweight feel, Teams can be heavier due to its deep integration with Microsoft 365 and its Electron-based architecture. So yes, it’s evolving like Slack—but with more lag for some users.

  • hi ilankessler not really, I really like how Teams keeps getting richer — the deep integration with Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive makes collaboration seamless, and the built-in meeting, recording, and transcription features are a huge plus compared to other tools. That said, day-to-day chat and channel use still feels a bit heavier and slower than Slack. If Teams can keep the enterprise-grade security and Microsoft 365 integration while making the client lighter and more responsive, it would be a best-of-both-worlds experience.
