Windows App will replace Remote Desktop app for Windows

Starting May 27, 2025, the Remote Desktop app for Windows from the Microsoft Store will no longer be supported or available for download and installation. Users must transition to Windows App to ensure continued access to Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Microsoft Dev Box.

For more information about this transition, please see aka.ms/RemoteDesktopAppBlog.

I'm desperately trying to figure out if the MS Store version of Remote Desktop App will cease to function on 5/27/25, or if it's just support ending for it. I have hundreds of users that rely on this every day. We're in the process of transitioning to Windows App but haven't made it all the way there yet. I can't imagine a scenario where Microsoft would cut off the program's ability to function, considering there are literally millions of users. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

What I don't understand is that in Windows, the Microsoft Remote Desktop App does not just automatically update itself to Windows App. IT SHOULD to avoid the disruption it will definitely bring if it suddenly stops working. People will have to set their connections back up fresh and they really shouldn't have to. It should be able to import those connections.

We have many hundres of users around the world that log into our Windows Servers to run our Apps.  Those that have the modernized remote Desktop for Macs and iOS have a pretty good experience with scaling and support for verious resoultions and ease with saving reports to their local drives.  Unfortunately users attaching to the system using Windows either had to rely on MSTSC - with its historic presentation and limitations related to monitor support - or use what was the Windows App store version - which unfortuantely was built without local drive connection support and somewhat crippled compared to the Mac version.  Now even that goes away and we are left with no enhanced support for those using hybrid system or directly to in-house Windows server.   Can we please get a version for Windows that allows access to remote desktop on Windows Server???
