Windows App - RDP channel crashes when printing on a redirected canon printer
We're seeing the same behavior with a client who's trying to migrate to the Windows app before the MSI-based Remote Desktop client sunset deadline (2026-03-27).
- The soon to be sunset MSI installed Remote Desktop client prints without issue and performing the same print operation through the Windows app crashes the Windows app.
- Client reconnects and sees their AVD session is exactly where it was, but nothing came to their printer. Attempting to print again yields the same result, Windows app crash.
- Client has tried resetting as well as reinstalling the Windows app, and has also tried changing a number of printer settings but nothing helps except using the MSI Remote Desktop client.
- Client is on Windows 11 and the AVD Session Host they're connecting to is a Windows 11 multi-session host, the app they're printing from is presented to them in RemoteApp mode (not a full desktop).
- Clients printer is a Canon MF743Cdw and printing to a non-Canon printer works as expected.
Looking in the client's Event Viewer we can see an Application Error gets logged:
