Remote Desktop Windows App Not able to Launch Application
We Fixed it!!!
Turns out it was disabling the "Remote Desktop Services UserMode Port Redirector" service that was causing the issue. As soon as this service was re-enabled the Remoteapps were able to launch successfully.

Hello RolandGeorge ,
I understand that a lot of time gone since your last comment, but maybe you still remember the details of this issue.
We've got the issue which I would describe exactly the same as you did in this post.
This happens when ether Windows app or modern Remote Desktop is being used for connection. The full desktop session works fine even with 'windows app'.
I also see that the requested application is starting on the host. And if I unfold the details of the connection, I even can see how the mouse pointer changes when it hovers the edges of the application window, but it's only the 'Preparing Windows' screen is being seen.
So it looks more like the app cannot properly detach the connection windows and stuck.
I checked "Remote Desktop Services UserMode Port Redirector" on the host side and it's running (restart doesn't help). I also tried to start this service on the client. but also no luck.
Do you or maybe anyone else who reed this know what else I can do to solve this. I'm really running out of ideas.- CaburabeDec 02, 2025Copper Contributor
For those who may also be looking for a solution and for screampuff.
I'm pretty sure that this is not a general solution but in my case reinstalling the AVD Agent on the session hosts solved the issue.
You can download the latest (not validation) version by following the link from this section of documentation https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/add-session-hosts-host-pool?tabs=portal%2Ccmd&pivots=host-pool-standard#register-session-hosts-to-a-host-pool
Or by following the direct link (can be changed in the future) https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2310011First you need to uninstall the AVD agent. There are number of supporting software installed on session host. You need this one:
During the uninstallation it tells that you will need to reboot. I didn't reboot and just installed the agent back from the msi downloaded by the link above.
You will need to specify registration token which you can generate in hostpool menu in Azure.
Then reboot.
That's it! I hope it will help you. - screampuffNov 19, 2025Copper Contributor
