Microsoft 365 Copilot taking up excessive CPU on session hosts
Hi,
Recently we have seen that Microsoft 365 Copilot has started to take up a lot of CPU on our session hosts. We have around 15 users on each session host using different applications, including Outlook and Edge which we think is where the Copilot is coming from. Has anyone noticed the same and managed to do anything about it?
In attached example it took 42% of the CPU.

Would suggest taking following actions:
1. Identify the High CPU Usage
- Use Task Manager or Performance Monitor on the session host to confirm which processes are consuming the most CPU.
- Check if the high usage is directly tied to Copilot-related processes or other applications like Edge or Outlook.
2. Optimize Session Host Resources
- Scale Up or Out: Increase the CPU and memory resources of your session hosts or add more session hosts to distribute the load.
- Limit User Sessions: Reduce the number of users per session host to prevent resource contention.
3. Copilot Setup
- Disable Copilot for Certain Applications: If Copilot is not essential for all users or applications, consider disabling it selectively.
- Update Microsoft 365 Apps: Ensure all applications are updated to the latest version, as updates often include performance optimizations.
