AVD Client on Windows 7 stopped working today (Error code: 0x3000008)

how exactly do you fix this issue for windows 8.1? As of Tuesday am I am no longer able to sign on to my work Virtual Desktop. I get the below error code. my it dept said it is because I am on windows 8.1 & am no longer compatible.
