Azure Synapse Analytics - Pricing

Hello All,

 

After taking many considerations, we have selected Azure Synapse for our Data Warehouse solution.  When I tried to estimate the cost of Azure Synapse in the Azure Pricing tool, the "Data Explorer Pool" is automatically added for $826.89. We really are not going to use any telemetry data within our solution. 

 

Is it mandatory that we have to spend $826.89, even for a development environment with no telemetry data as source?

 

As anyone experienced this ? 

 

Also, is there any pricing tool excel template, that can show pricing for various environments like Dev, Test, QA and Prod?

    No, it is not mandatory to have Data Explorer Pools; If you don't create such a Pool in your Synapse Workspace, you are not going to pay for it.

    Pricing in Synapse is very complex. Every sub-service (Spark, Pipelines, Dedicated SQL and Serless SQL) has its own pricing model.
    Took me a long time to understand everything.
