Sensitivity label licensing doubt

Hello all,

I'm struggling trying to understand the licence needs for creation and use of Sensitivity Labels.

We wanted to add Sensitivity Labels to be used in the Teams creation. While reading the information on how to create and use them it appears the license limitation.

In my company all users have Office 365 E1 license, can those users use the Sensitivity labels when creating a Team, or they need to have an Office 365 E3 or E5 license? Which license is needed for the creation of those Sensitivity labels?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Hi, MireiaRomo,

Thank you for posting your question. I understand you're seeking clarification for which license is needed to:

    • Apply labels to Microsoft Teams / Sites / Groups, AKA Containers

You will need to have an E5 license to leverage this feature within sensitivity labels. You can read the full licensing guidance on labels here.

If you want to read an overview on labels and their capabilities, you're welcome to see my blog linked below. You'll also see a label mini-series on the blog page that can be reviewed as well.
