Apr 12, 2025Hello rrdrummond88 ,
I configured the below policy in my lab environment, and it works.
- Make sure the devices are onboarded successfully
Refer to: Get started with endpoint data loss prevention | Microsoft Learn - Add WhatsApp as restricted app from below,
- I created the policy with the following rules and set it to top priority (0). Please note I did not configure this using restricted app groups., added WhatsApp directly as restricted app and used that config in DLP.
- Give it sometime and test on the device by uploading any word/excel/ppt file to WhatsApp and it will be blocked with the below warning,
- But if I try to upload any other file like, .txt, it uploads fine.
Some troubleshooting tips,
1. Make sure the policy is scoped for the intended user logged in to the device. In my case it is targeted to All users and groups as it is testing environment.
2. Make sure the word/excel/ppt file is logged with the targeted user credentials.
3. Give it sometime as DLP policies take 30-60 mins to reflect on the device.
4. Make sure the device you are testing is properly onboarded and green.
Hope that helps!
