Unfortunately not. I ended up opening a support ticket and I've been told that this feature works only for cloud users; hybrid users cannot be linked to their groups. So, it's intended (or rather "not unintended") behaviour.
I will put a feature request forward to add the functionality to all user objects, not just for cloud users.
