ARC and End of Lilfe Operating Systems
Hello, my organization has a number of Server 2012R2 instances and they are managed by ARC. Does anyone know how ARC will handle the server when it goes end of life?
-Will ARC continue to patch with the minimal Extended Security Updates without any intervention?
-Will I need to pay for a MAK key for these servers to continue to get updates even though ARC is installed?
Thanks in advance!

- Tony_Sam_ThomasCopper ContributorYou will need to buy ESU for the particular server and use the MAK keys on server, then you can either use Azure Update manager or get windows update directly on the server OS via settings(control panel).

Hi BHill777,
Getting to this a bit late, but we recently announced the ability to acquire ESUs for Windows Server 2012/R2 and SQL server 2012 via Azure Arc on a PAYG basis, billed via your Azure subscription.
Acquiring ESUs via Arc is completely keyless. If the machine is enabled to receive ESUs via Arc it will automatically be whitelisted to receive the updates and you can continue to deploy the updates via your regular update management process.

I dont think so you have to payIf customers need to remain on-premises for regulatory or compliance reasons, they can purchase Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for their on-premises servers, more about that below. For on-premises servers, customers will be able to use Azure Arc to receive automated/scheduled ESU updates and installation as well as the security and governance capabilities in Azure
