In-Place Upgrade Azure VM from 2012 R2 to 2016

Hello

I saw MS Support article that in-place upgrade of Azure VM from 2012R2 to 2016 is not supported by MS.

But they suggested to use some workaround and do in-place upgrade on local Hyper-V VM with downloaded vhd file. Also there is some not supported workaround in internet

E:\setup.exe /auto upgrade /DynamicUpdate enable /pkey XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /showoobe none

In this case I need to use my own serial number during update. So, my question is it ok to use my serial number?
