Wellbeing Dashboard Calculations

Hello Team, please assist with the below questions:

  • Is this an 8-hour day? If so when we look at collaboration hours and focus time that add up to 9 hours.

  • The focus time is looking at 2 blocks or more where you have no meetings if so, does this mean the is no meeting for that day for a specific division as we look at Collaboration vs Focus time?

  • Flexible start time is first active collaboration hour occurred outside of the standard start time of the day; does it look at start times within 1 hour of the default working hours start time? Our start time is 8am please advised on this.

  • How are the metrics calculated for breaks?
  • Looking at where the is no collaboration or employee was not active between start time and end time?

Thank you

  • Hi NONTLAHLA_MJIKELO, please see the answers below:

    1. Is this an 8-hour day? If so when we look at collaboration hours and focus time that add up to 9 hours.
You can customize the working hours for your organization, I recommend checking the settings and seeing what working hours your team put on the report. Most likely the working hours in your report have been set to allow for 10 hour working days. Once you edit that setting it should reflect different hours available for focus time.

See this document for more info: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/viva/insights/tutorials/power-bi-wellbeing#customize-working-hours

    2. The focus time is looking at 2 blocks or more where you have no meetings if so, does this mean the is no meeting for that day for a specific division as we look at Collaboration vs Focus time?

The definition of focus time is uninterrupted time blocks of two hours or more with no meetings. In this case the division you are looking at has 3.1 hours of collaboration (meetings, chats, call, emails) and 6.6 hours of focus time available. That doesn't necessarily mean they have no meeting for that day. Also keep in mind that this report is showing an aggregate of data collected over a set time range.

    3. Flexible start time is first active collaboration hour occurred outside of the standard start time of the day; does it look at start times within 1 hour of the default working hours start time? Our start time is 8am please advised on this.

Flexible start time refers to any collaboration before the default working hours. It does not have to be within 1 hour of the default start time, in some cases it may be 2 hours or 3 hours earlier.

    4. How are the metrics calculated for breaks?

I am checking this with the product team to understand how this is calculated as this is not available on the doucmentation.

    5. Looking at where the is no collaboration or employee was not active between start time and end time?

Yes, that means that out of the employees you looked at, over this period that the employees with no collaboration did not produce any signals monitored by Viva Insights (meetings, call, chats, emails).

  • Thanks Jake!

On the calculation for breaks, this is to look at recurring breaks during working hours for the week, meaning if the person was inactive (i.e., didn't send an email/chat or didn't attend a meeting/call) during 12-1pm every day of the week, that hour will be counted as a recurring break. It could be that a person honors the lunch break to spend time with family and friends, or if the recurring break happens during school open/close hours, it could be that the person carries the duty to send/pick up kids from school, and come back to work afterwards.

This is calculated by running an hourly collaboration query (weekly query) where each column represents one hour block of the day (e.g., 7-8AM, 8-9AM) and number of collaboration activities happened in that hour block for the week. If the number of activity is 0 for that hour block, this meant the person was inactive during this hour block each day of the week. Thus, this person is classified as having recurring breaks for this week.

    Hope this helps.
