SMS can't be send to complete my Microsoft login account

After entering my Microsoft account username and password (which are accepted), I should be able to have an SMS code sent to the registered number. Instead, a red error message appears saying "Verify your identity. We're sorry, we're having trouble verifying your account. Please try again. View details. Send a text message to +XXXX XXXXX01. More information. Are your verification methods up to date? Check at https://aka.ms/mfasetup," and it does not allow me to use any other method to complete authentication. Is there a way to get in?

  • Your password is accepted, but the additional SMS verification fails and no alternative method is offered. The reference to security-information registration suggests a work or school account, although confirming the account type is important because personal-account recovery uses a different process.
For an organizational account, contact your IT help desk through an established channel. Give them the exact error, occurrence time, and details shown under View details. Ask them to check your registered phone number and the failed sign-in's authentication details. A successful password check does not bypass the second-factor requirement.
After verifying your identity, an authorized administrator can help restore an approved authentication method. If your organization enables Temporary Access Pass for you, that can provide a controlled route to register another method. Do not delete your existing security information while locked out. Once access is restored, register an additional organization-approved method to reduce dependence on SMS.
